BellNuggets from Fridayâs lessonâŚ
2 Samuel 4:4, 9:1, 7, 13
⢠Deliverance in this context means the action of being rescued or set free; emancipation.
⢠Disability is any condition of the body or mind that makes it more difficult for a person to perform certain activities or interact with the world around them.
⢠Sin is the soulâs paralysis. It is the spiritual spinal injury that leaves us unable to walk in righteousness. It is a handicap of the heart.
⢠The biblical story is focused on Mephibosheth. He was five years, just beginning to dream and believe in the safety of familiar arms. His grandfather Saul and father Jonathan were killed during battle. Word reached the nurse who panicked and with no evil intent or malice in her hands, dropped him.
⢠Mephibosheth was dropped by fear, disabled by circumstances, but defined by neither. *What dropped you did not cancel Godâs covenant over you!
⢠David asked, Is there anyone of the house of Saul? Mephibosheth was brought before him. David calls him by name. *God still calls us by purpose, not by pain!
⢠David looks past Mephiboshethâs limp and lineage, and speaks mercy. What he did politically, Jesus does spiritually. We are not offered pity but position.
⢠Mephibosheth was invited by David to eat at the table. He was carried and seated, not among servants but sons.
⢠The Table hid the disability! When seated at the table of grace, our disability no longer defines us. We may still have scars, but we also have a seat!
⢠David didnât fix Mephiboshethâs feet, he furnished the fellowship. He didnât cure the limp, he covered it with love.
⢠Mephiboshethâs condition never changed, but his context did. He remained lamed on both feet, but deliverance came from the consequences, shame, exclusion, and limitations imposed by the disability.
Bishop Bellamy shared three points concerning Mephibosheth. He wasâŚ
1. DROPPED BUT DESIRED.
2. DISABLED BUT DELIVERED.
3. DEPENDENT BUT DIGNIFIED.
DELIVERANCE FROM THE DISABILITY!
