Psalm 34
This is one of my favorite Psalms because the Psalmist declares the goodness of God and what our attitude should be towards God in any and every situation. The Psalmist demonstrates a thankful, humble heart, which recognizes the complete need and dependence on God; “I sought the Lord, and He heard me and delivered me from all my fears” (v. 4).
“I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth” (v.1). These are powerful words that denote that no matter what is going on in one’s life, praises and worship unto the Lord should fill our mouths. Job 1:21 says, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return there. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; Blessed be the name of the LORD.”
The Psalmist is giving thanks to God for His protection against his enemy. He declares that God is in favor of those who love, humble themselves, look for and surrender to Him.
God hears all our prayers, and He is always with us; “the righteous cry out, and the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their trouble” (v. 17). This verse has been in my mind and heart from the moment I read it over 30 years ago. It has helped me stand that no matter what, God has my back.
This Psalm also helps us remember that righteousness leads the path to the heart of God and to His protection; His command is for us to walk the straight and narrow path, which is necessary for the deliverance from all afflictions (v. 19). I am continually reminded to stand daily spiritually naked before the Lord to walk in His righteousness, knowing that if I walk with Him, He will walk with me.
Please be encouraged that if you trust in God and in His Son, Jesus Christ, He is for you and the Bible says that if He is for you, then no one can be against you (Rom. 8:31).
Be blessed!
