This past Saturday morning, January 11th, 17 of our faithful gathered for an inspiring 3-hour Byzantine Chant Workshop! 🙏✨

🎼 Participants explored the rich history of Byzantine chant and its essential role in liturgical worship. They also learned an overview of the eight modes of church music 🎵 and received helpful resources in both Western and Byzantine notation to continue their journey of learning church hymnography. 📚🎶

A big thank you to Noelle for doing an incredible job with the workshop! 👏 Her teaching style was both welcoming and engaging, making the fundamentals of Byzantine chant accessible to participants of all skill levels. 🪗🎤

🌟 January 10: Feast of Saint Gregory of Nyssa 🌟
Today, we celebrate Saint Gregory of Nyssa (c. 331–c. 395), an inspiring Father of the Church and defender of the Orthodox Faith. 🕊️

🖊️ Known for his profound theological writings and oratory skills, Gregory came from a family of saints, including his brother Saint Basil the Great and his sister Saint Macrina, who encouraged him to pursue a life dedicated to God.

🙏 Though reluctant at first, a vision of the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste awakened Gregory’s zeal for the faith, leading him to become a bishop in 372 and a tireless defender of the Orthodox Church. He faced persecution, exile, and heresy but remained steadfast, contributing greatly to the Second Ecumenical Council in 381.

📖 Gregory’s theological works teach us about:
• The Trinity, affirming the unity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
• The soul’s continuous journey toward God and transformation through grace.
• The beauty of humanity’s creation in God’s image and our ultimate call to become like Him.
• The hope of eternal life through Christ’s resurrection.

✨ Gregory is honored as one of the Cappadocian Fathers and called the “Father of Fathers” for his enduring contributions to the Church.

Quotes by Saint Gregory of Nyssa:
• “Sin happens whenever we refuse to keep growing.”
• “The goal of a virtuous life is to become like God.”

Let us honor his legacy and pray for his intercession today:
“Through the prayers of Saint Gregory, O Lord, have mercy on us!” 🙏

🌟✨ Synaxis of John the Holy Glorious Prophet, Baptist, & Forerunner ✨🌟

Today, Jan 7th the day after the great Feast of Theophany, the Orthodox Church honors Saint John the Baptist, the one who placed his hand on the head of the Savior during His Baptism in the Jordan. 🌊🕊️

Saint John, the greatest of prophets, stood as the bridge between the Old and New Testaments. He proclaimed repentance, prepared the way for the Messiah, and witnessed the Theophany of the Most Holy Trinity. 🙌🔥

From his miraculous birth to the priest Zachariah and righteous Elizabeth, to his life of prayer and fasting in the desert, Saint John shines as a “bright morning star” heralding the dawn of salvation through Christ. ✨🙏

🩸 He ultimately gave his life in witness to the Truth, martyred by King Herod.
📜 Relics of his right hand, the one that baptized the Lord, were later transferred across the Christian world, eventually arriving in Russia in 1799.

📅 Other Feast Days for Saint John the Baptist:
• Sept 23: His Conception
• June 24: His Nativity
• Aug 29: His Beheading
• Feb 24 & May 25: Findings of His Head
• Oct 12: Transfer of His Right Hand

Let us glorify the Forerunner, who pointed to the Lamb of God and called us to repentance! ☦️💧

🌊✨ What a Blessed Celebration of the Feast of Theophany Today! ✨🌊

This morning’s Divine Liturgy at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church was truly uplifting, with so many faithful gathered to celebrate this sacred feast! 🙏🌟

Father Thomas gave a wonderful and interactive demonstration for the children, explaining the meaning behind the Theophany icon—helping them (and all of us!) to understand the deep significance of Christ’s baptism in the Jordan River.

After the Liturgy, we participated in the Small Blessing of the Water, a beautiful prayer service where Father Thomas distributed small bottles of Holy Water to everyone to take home. 💧✨

We are so thankful for this opportunity to gather as a community and be illumined by Christ’s light. May His blessings be with all of you!

🌟✨ Honoring St. Seraphim of Sarov! ✨🌟

📅 January 2
Today, we commemorate St. Seraphim the Wonderworker of Sarov, a saint of extraordinary faith, humility, and love for God. 🕊️🙏

Born in Kursk in 1759, St. Seraphim was guided by the Most Holy Mother of God throughout his life. 🌸🌿 He was miraculously healed as a child and went on to dedicate his life to prayer, asceticism, and service to others.

🌟 Highlights of his holy life:
✨ Unwavering prayer: He stood on a rock in prayer for 1,000 nights.
✨ Divine visions: St. Seraphim was blessed with appearances of Christ and the Theotokos.
✨ Healing and guidance: He comforted countless souls, healed the sick, and brought sinners to repentance.

📖 His timeless teaching:
“Acquire the Spirit of Peace, and a thousand souls around you will be saved.” 💖

let us unite in spirit and reflect on the life of this great saint. May his example inspire us to grow in faith, humility, and love for God. 🙏

St. Seraphim of Sarov, pray for us! 💒🕊️

🌟 Happy New Year! 2025 🌟

Today was a truly blessed and joyful day at our parish! 🙏⛪

We celebrated the Feast of Saint Basil the Great with the Divine Liturgy, honoring this great Father of the Church who continues to inspire us with his faith, wisdom, and love for God and neighbor. ☦️🌿

Following the service, we shared the beautiful tradition of cutting the Vasilopita 🥮, praying for God’s blessings and guidance for the new year. It was a joy to see our parish family gathered together in faith and unity, starting 2025 with prayer, thanksgiving, and fellowship. 🎉❤️

We are grateful for such a vibrant congregation and for the opportunity to share this special day with all of you. 🕊️ May the year ahead be filled with health, peace, and abundant blessings for you and your loved ones!

🌟 Happy New Year! 2025🌟

Today, January 1st, is a day of great celebration in the life of the Church as we honor two glorious feasts:

☦️ The Circumcision of Our Lord: On the eighth day after His Nativity, Christ fulfilled the Law by being circumcised, showing His humility and obedience. On this day, He also received His most holy Name, JESUS, meaning “Savior” (Luke 2:21).

🌿 The Feast of Saint Basil the Great: A true luminary of the Church, Saint Basil dedicated his life to the faith through his asceticism, wisdom, and unwavering defense of Orthodoxy. Known as “the revealer of heavenly things,” he left us treasures of theology, liturgical writings, and an inspiring example of selfless love for God and neighbor.
