林傳道在香港出生長大，已婚32年，育有四位已成年的孩子。他畢業於紐約大學土木工程系，曾在彭博社擔任 IT 工程師近18年，之後蒙召全職事奉上帝。
他於2020年畢業於ATS神學院，獲得聖經研究碩士學位，並於2023年完成道學碩士課程。林傳道隸屬於宣

道會大都會區（Metro District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance）
