Surprising Reminder (long post)

The J. Marlene Atanasoff award is given to an outstanding advocate and example of John Wesley's principles of mercy, justice, and piety.

"The recipient stands on her own for her spiritual leadership and dedicated commitment in advocating for those beyond themselves individually, and in community.

Our named recipient diligently aspires to love out the words from Psalm 89:14 "righteous and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you." Our recipient reflects the character of Christ in her call to step in with others in unconditional love, holy discernment, and gifted sensitivity in drawing others into sacred spaces."

They were talking about me, and I was surprised, even though I knew I was getting the award. I don’t share this to puff myself up. I share this as a reminder that all of us impact others in beautiful ways we don't understand or see. Sometimes we get a glimpse of how others see us and our work as I was blessed to receive a glimpse on Friday. Sometimes we toil for decades without anyone calling out our honest and compassionate work.

Never forget that your work, your kindness, and your compassion for others matters.
