Kids learned this week about how God’s forgiveness makes us whole. Sadly, the disciple Peter betrayed Jesus before He died. However, when Jesus came back to life, He forgave Peter and invited him to continue following Jesus. Kids learned that Jesus demonstrated how His forgiveness can make people whole. Ask your kids about a struggle with sin. Pray together that God would forgive their sin and help them live in the wholeness and love He offers.

After the disciple Peter lied about knowing Jesus, he was devastated. But when Jesus rose from the dead, He invited Peter to follow Him and care for others, showing that He forgives what is broken and makes us whole. Point out broken things while with your preschoolers, explaining that sin breaks our friendship with God, but because of forgiveness through Jesus, God can make us whole.

Preschool parents: draw pairs of shapes (hearts, circles, and so on) on the backs of bandages. Mix up the bandages and challenge your preschoolers to make matches. Talk about how bandages help us when we are hurt, but God gives us something even better. Sin hurts our friendship with God, but when God forgives us, we can have a friendship with Him.

Elementary parents: gather some magazines, construction paper, glue sticks, and child-safe scissors to create a fun forgiveness reminder. Cut out the letters to spell I AM FORGIVEN, gluing the letters to the center of the construction paper. Then cut out other images that display joy and love. Hang your collage as a reminder that God’s forgiveness gives us a fresh start and changes our lives for the better.

This week in elementary ages, their Bible story came from Mark 2 and Luke 5. Where men carried their friend who could not walk on a mat to Jesus in hopes that Jesus would heal their friend. But before Jesus healed the man, He forgave him because forgiveness is what the man needed most. Kids learned that we all sin and need God’s forgiveness, and He has made His forgiveness available for everyone. Share with your kids your own experience of how forgiveness makes a difference, inspiring them to enjoy God’s forgiveness too.

This week in preschool our Bible story came from Mark 2 and Luke 5. When men carried their paralyzed friend on a mat to see Jesus, He healed the man and forgave his sins. Preschoolers learned that God can forgive all of us through Jesus, which is better than anything else we could ask for. Ask your preschoolers yes-or-no questions about what they can and cannot do, ending with, “Can God forgive you?” celebrated with a loud yes!

Elementary kids this month, will get to learn about God’s forgiveness with the Theme Fresh Start. Can you picture an old chalkboard covered in drawings, then totally erased? That’s the kind of fresh start we get when we experience God’s forgiveness. (Share a short story about how the Simple Truth impacts you personally.) This month, preschoolers will learn that God’s forgiveness is something that stays with us with the Big Deal, “Stuck on You! God Forgives Me and You!” (Share a short story about how the Simple Truth, God forgives me and you, impacts you personally.) We will teach preschoolers that God can forgive us, make us whole, and give us hope and grace. We can’t wait to learn this month how God’s forgiveness sticks and doesn't go away!
