Encouraging Words for the Week

Words have weight!!

Words carry life…Or death.
(Proverbs 18:21)
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
They impact people. And sometimes we don’t even realize the impact.
A word that was spoken in seconds… Can be held for years.
That can be a positive thing or a negative one… It depends on what was said.
We all can remember good things and bad things that have been said to us.
It’s likely things that aren’t even remembered by those who said them.
But words have power. They stick with us.
Let’s not be someone others have negative memories of.
Let’s not be someone who uses harsh words. Let’s be wise with our words.
Let’s use our words to uplift, and encourage… Not discourage.
Yes, we all get frustrated or upset, and it’s in those moments that we’re most susceptible to saying something we shouldn’t have.
The Bible gives us wisdom about this.
It guides us to not be quick to say what we think. That’s a recipe for trouble.
(Proverbs 29:20)
Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
We’re better off saying nothing… Than something attacking.
(Proverbs 17:28)
Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
That doesn’t mean you don’t defend or stand up for yourself, but you can do that without words that tear someone down.
It’s a human reaction to want to do that when you yourself feel hurt.
We want to give them a dose of their own medicine.
Isn’t that fair? Revenge isn’t ours. It’s God’s. He promises to be our defender, our justice… He will deliver what’s deserved.
(Romans 12:19)
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
You may not see it. But trust that if God said it… It will be. That’s actually a gift.
It’s freedom from a mind and body that’s tossing and turning with angst.
It’s freedom from weight that someone tried to put on your back.
You don’t deserve that.
And God, in His wonderful ways, doesn’t leave us to figure that out.
He tells us to leave it with Him. Let’s leave it with Him. We’ll never go wrong trusting Him.
That’s how we win.

Encouraging words of the Week

In His Hands

We want control. We want to know what’s next. We want certainty.
That’s human nature.
But life doesn’t work that way. It has unknowns. Some pleasant. Some painful.
No one wants unknowns.
But it’s reality. We can fight that fact. But that just elevates anxiety. It’s not healthy.
Or we can accept the gift we’ve been given…
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
And… 1Peter 5:7
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
And… Isaiah 41:10
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
And… Romas 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
If God said it… We can hold on to it. We can trust.
There’s release that comes from it. There’s freedom.
If it’s hard for you to do that… Think of the times He’s been there for you. Think of how He’s worked in your life.
Remind yourself… God’s been there before… He’ll be there again. And again. And again. And again.
Because He’s consistent. (Hebrews 13:8) Because He’s truth. (John 14:6)
So, whatever it is before you…
Whatever it is that brings worry…
God’s already there. He knows what you need.
He will help.
So, let’s exhale the burden of figuring everything out.
Let’s exhale anxiety.
Let’s use our abilities as best we can. Let’s be wise.
But, let’s leave everything else with the One who spoke everything into existence.
Because if He created the world, and everything in it…
We don’t need to know the future.
He already has us taken care of, in it.

Encouraging words for the week.

Today is Mother’s Day. I want to take a moment to thank all of our moms for giving us life and we joyfully celebrate the moms amongst us.

But it’s a hard day too—let’s just get that out in the open and be honest. Many have experienced the loss of a mom, the loss of a child, or the absence of a child so deeply desired, so achingly longed for.
This day is bittersweet. Is there anything so piercing as the subject of motherhood? Anything else so strong? Any other relationship—whether you are a child or a mom or someone who wants to be a mom—that sparks such strong emotions? It doesn’t have an equal.

Not everyone is able to celebrate with their mother today. There are….
The moms amongst us who may have lost a child—either because the child passed away all too soon, or because the baby was lost in the womb.
The many women who longed to be moms, but did not happen
The children who have had to say goodbye to their own moms, way too early. We know there are so many of you and we see you.

And finally, we know there are moms and children who are both walking roads mingled with both grief and joy: fostering, adoption, and other relationships that are gifts, and yet were forged through trauma.
There are many and varied reasons one might feel pain today.

We also want to thank God for the gift of motherhood, the gift of mothers, and the gift of children. We want to praise him for the gift of life. He is worthy of our praise—life and motherhood are worthy of our joy!

Being a woman, made in the image of God, is a gift. I thank God for each one of you. Whether you have given life biologically or not, or through fostering or adoption or not, you are a life-giver. God made us to give life spiritually — and you each give life as you serve one another.
There is immeasurable spiritual life being forged by the hands of the women at Lighthouse Gospel Church, we are all so thankful for that!

Whether today is heavy or happy for you, together we bless the name of the Lord. Because we know that he—who is the Giver of Life, he is also a Father who lost his child, and a Son who gave his life—sees and knows and holds you closely in his kind hands.
May you feel his nearness, his pleasure, his peace all day long today.

Encouraging Words for the Week.

Surrender
We’re a society of self-reliance.
Pull yourself up.
Figure it out.
You got this.

That’s the messaging.

But that messaging leads to exhaustion.
It leads to burnout.

It leads to a life that’s running on fumes…
Trying to do it all alone.

That’s not God’s design.

God’s design is surrender…
It’s trust.

It’s leaning on Him.
It’s putting Him at the center…
So His strength shines.

That may sound weak to the world.
But it’s wisdom.

He wants us to lay the weight we feel…
At His feet.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
-Matthew 11:28, ESV

That’s an invitation.
That’s relief.

But so many don’t accept it.
They keep grinding.
They keep striving.

They put their smarts at the center…
Instead of Christ.

That doesn’t mean you don’t work hard.
That means you start with God.

That means you stay tuned into His nudges.
That means you go where you’re guided.
That’s surrender.

When that happens…
Everything else falls into place.

You’ll have doors open that you didn’t see.
You’ll have one thing to say…
“Thank you, Lord.”

So when the world says…
Hold tighter.

Listen to God saying…
Surrender.

When we do that…
We don’t confuse giving ourselves praise.
Because it’s clear…
It was Him.
