Encouraging Words for the Week

Eyes on Jesus!

When something shifts in your life, and creates some uncertainty, worry will try to strike.
But we have protection in a God-given weapon.
We have a sword that slays worry.
We have God’s Word.
But like any weapon, it’s not helpful if it’s in storage.
You need to have it handy.
You need to use it.
Make it easy…
Create a collection of verses that speak to you…
Verses that give you confidence…
Verses that give you comfort.
So, when worry strikes…
You’re ready.
You’re ready to refresh your mind with truth.
You’re ready to flush that worry away.
You’re ready to refocus.
When Peter stepped out of the boat, he was able to walk on water when his eyes were on Jesus.
(Matthew 14:29)
But when his eyes left Jesus, and his focus shifted to his surroundings, worry struck.
(Matthew 14:30)
And his faith sank.
And so did he.
It’s a wonderful example of how we’re always better off when our focus is on Jesus.
There will always be situations that can fuel worry if that’s our focus.
Well the doctor said…
Well I don’t have experience in…
Well I don’t see how…
Your life isn’t based on what the worlds says.
Your life is based on what God says.
Your life isn’t limited to mans logic.
Your life has power…
Through Christ.
You have heavenly help.
You have Jesus.
Your Worry can be flipped around and be a testimony of God’s goodness.
You keep your eyes on Jesus.
That’s the key.

Encouraging Word for the Week

Job
I wonder how many of us could have gone through what Job went through, and stayed faithful.
He had wealth, health, and a family.
He was devoted to God.
But Scripture tells us that Satan claimed Job was only faithful to God because of his prosperity and protection.
So in Job 1:9-12 God allowed Satan to test Job. What happened?
In Job 1:13-22 Satan caused Job to lose his wealth and his children in a series of catastrophic events. But Job stayed faithful.
In Job 2:7 Satan afflicted Job with painful sores from head to toe. But Job stayed faithful.
In Job 2:9-10 Job’s wife urged him to curse God. But Job stayed faithful.
It’s an extreme story. It’s a well-known story. It’s a story of faith. But that’s not where it ends. God has the last say. He always does.
Job’s fortune was restored…He ended up with twice what he had before.
Job 42:10-13 He had more children. His devotion to God… It wouldn’t be destroyed.
No matter what. It’s a mighty, mighty example of faith.
It’s a story that you and I are glad isn’t ours.
But, we have our own experiences. No one exists in flesh… Without pain. It’s part of life.
Some of us experience it more than others. But, we all experience it.
It’s not experienced in proportion to sins. It doesn’t work like that. But we want clear answers. We want everything to be logical. We want understanding.
We want “good” people to suffer the least, and “bad” people to suffer the most.
Isn’t that justice? That’s not for us to judge. We’re all sinners. One sin makes us a sinner.
One sin separates us from God.
One sin requires Jesus’ death on the cross to receive forgiveness and salvation.
It feels like we want there to be a scale of sorts that dishes out pain based on what’s appropriate. But what is appropriate? Our death. What is appropriate?
Spending eternity in separation from God. Which is the price of sin.
What’s gifted? Salvation through Jesus. What’s promised? Hope.
You could be healed in an instant… Keep praying.
Your answers could be delayed… Keep praying. Whatever happens… Stay faithful.
Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
John 14: 2-3 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
That’s the zoomed-out beautiful picture.
Let’s focus on that.

Encouraging Words for the Week

Don’t let your mood decide!

There are some days that are just hard days…
Days you just want behind you… Draining days.
And on days like that, it’s easy to not be in the mood to praise God.
You don’t feel energized. You’re tired.
While understandable, it’s not Biblical.
Praise isn’t just for good days… And good moods.
He’s just as worthy every day… Regardless of our day.
But, how do we cultivate a heart of praise on hard days?
Start with honesty. Tell God exactly how you’re feeling.
Express yourself. Just open up, and let it out.
Give it to Him. That’s what He wants.
(1 Peter 5:7) Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
There’s rest and release in Him.
Give Him your mood. Give Him your day.
He’s not to be set aside on hard days…
He’s to be clung to… He’s help.
(Deuteronomy 33:26) There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky.
When you acknowledge Him, despite your mood…
You’re tapping into His strength. You’re activating faith.
When you remind yourself of His faithfulness, His goodness, His love…
You’re stirring up praise in your heart. You’re giving it a spark.
So, when you’re not in the mood to praise…
Just try speaking His truths… Speak His promises.
Remind yourself of the times He’s been there for you…
The times He’s made a way. You do that, and you’ll feel a shift in your mood.
Your focus will move from your problems, to your Problem Solver…
From your feelings, to your Heavenly Father… From your hurt, to your Healer.
You’ll release stress. You’ll have peace.
Not because something immediately changed with your situation…
But because your eyes lifted to your source. You gave Him rightful attention.
You found rest in Him. You aligned your mind to Him.
You reminded yourself that He’s bigger than your obstacles.
You gave yourself a boost of his truth.
You suppressed distractions. You choose Him.
So, my encouragement today…
Exercise your faith even on days you don’t feel like it.
You’ll find special strength… You’ll find help. Whatever is going on, God is greater. He knows you by name. He loves you.
He will take care of you. Give Him praise.
