GUARD YOUR THOUGHTS

Paul Valery observed, "We hope vaguely but dread precisely." How true. All too often, we allow the worries of everyday life to overwhelm our thoughts and cloud our vision. What's needed is a clearer perspective, renewed faith, and a different focus.

When we focus on the frustrations of today or the uncertainties of tomorrow, we rob ourselves of peace in the present moment. But, when we focus on God's grace, and when we trust in the ultimate wisdom of God's plan for our lives, our worries no longer tyrannize us.

Today, remember that God is infinitely greater than the challenges that you face. Remember also that your thoughts are profoundly powerful, so guard them accordingly.

Your thoughts have the power to lift you up or bring you down, so you should guard your thoughts very carefully.

BEYOND WORRY

If you're a person with lots of obligations and plenty of responsibilities, it is simply a fact of life: You worry. From time to time, you worry about health, about money, about safety, about family, about countless other concerns, some great and some small.

Where is the best place to take your worries? Take them to God. Take your troubles to Him; take your fears to Him; take your doubts to Him; take your weaknesses to Him; take your sorrows to Him . . . and leave them all there. Seek protection from the One who offers you eternal salvation; build your spiritual house upon the Rock that cannot be moved.

YOUR TO-DO-LIST . . . AND GOD'S

Have you asked God to help prioritize your life? Have you asked Him for guidance and for courage to do the things that you know need to be done? If so, then you're continually inviting your Creator to reveal Himself in a variety of ways. As a follower of Christ, you must do no less.

When you make God's priorities your priorities, you will receive God's abundance and His peace. When you make God a full partner in every aspect of your life, He will lead you along the proper path: His path. When you allow God to reign over your heart, He will honor you with spiritual blessings that are simply too numerous to count. So, as you plan for the day ahead, make God's will your ultimate priority. When you do, every other priority will have a tendency to fall in place.

FAITH ABOVE FEELINGS

Hebrews 10:38 teaches that we,should live by faith. Yet sometimes, despite our best intentions, negative feelings can rob us of peace and abundance that would otherwise be ours through Christ. When anger and anxiety separates us from the spiritual blessings that God has in store, we must rethink our priorities and renew our faith. And we must place faith above feelings. Human emotions are highly variable, decidedly unpredictable, and often unreliable. Our emotions are like the weather, only far more fickle. So we must learn to live by faith, not by the ups and downs of our emotional roller coasters.

Sometime during the day, you will probably be gripped by a strong negative emotion. Distrust it. Rein it in. Test it. And turn it over to God. Your emotions will inevitably change; God will not. So trust Him completely as you watch your feelings slowly evaporate into air--which, of course, they will.

FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD

For believers, death is not an ending; it is a beginning. For believers, the grave is not a final resting place, it is a place of transition. For believers, death is not a dark journey into nothingness; it is a homecoming.

God sent His Son as a sacrifice for our sins. Through Jesus, we are redeemed. By welcoming Christ into our hearts, we have received the precious, unfathomable gift of eternal life. Let us praise God for His Son. The One from Galilee has saved us from our sins so that we might live courageously, die triumphantly, and live again---eternally.

God offers you a priceless gift: the gift of eternal life. If you have not already done so, accept God's gift today---tomorrow may be too late.

TODAY IS A CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION!

What is the best day to celebrate life? This one! Today and every day should be a time for celebration as we consider the Good News of God's gift: salvation through Jesus Christ.

What do you expect from the day ahead? Are you expecting God to do wonderful things, or are you living beneath a cloud of worry and doubt?

The familiar words of Psalm 118:24 remind us of a profound yet simple truth: "This is the day the LORD has made." Our duty, as believers, is to rejoice in God's marvelous creation. For believers in Christ, every day begins and ends with God and His Son. Christ came to this earth to give us abundant life and eternal salvation. We give thanks to our Maker when we treasure each day. So with no further ado, let celebrations begin!

If you don't feel like celebrating, start counting your blessings. Before long, you'll realize that you have plenty of reasons to celebrate.

"DON'T FORGET TO LAUGH"

Laughter is medicine for the soul, but sometimes, amid the stresses of the day, we forget to take our medicine. Instead of viewing our world with a mixture of optimism and humor, we allow worries and distractions to rob us of the joy of that God intends for our lives.

So the next time you find yourself dwelling upon the negatives of life, refocus your attention to things positive. The next time you feel pessimistic, stop yourself and turn your thoughts around. And, if you see your glass as "half-empty," rest assured that your spiritual vision is impaired. With God, your glass is never half empty. With God as your protector and Christ as your Savior, your glass is filled to the brim and overflowing, now and forever.

Today, approach life with a smile on your lips and hope in your heart. And laugh every chance you get. After all, God created laughter for a reason, and the Father, indeed, knows best. So laugh!

If you can't see joy and humor in everyday life, you're not paying attention to the right things. So, remember the donut-maker's creed: "As you travel through life, brothers, whatever be your goal, keep your eye upon the donut, and not upon the hole."

"YOUR SHINING LIGHT"

Whether you like it or not, we are role models. Hopefully, the lives we lead and the choices we make will serve as an enduring examples of the spiritual abundance that is available to all who worship God and obey His commandments.

Ask yourself this question: Are you the kind of role model that you would want to emulate? If so, congratulations. But if certain aspects of your behavior could stand improvement, the best day to begin your self-improvement regimen is this one. Because whether you realize it or not, people you love are watching your behavior, and they're learning how to live. You owe it to them---and to yourself---to live righteously and well.

Your friends are watching, so be the kind of example that God wants you to be--be a rock-solid example of what it means to be a faithful believer in Christ.

"THINK NOW, ACT LATER"

Are you, at times, just a little bit impulsive? Do you sometimes fail to look before you leap? If so, God wants to have a little chat with you.

God's Word is clear: as believers, we are called to lead lives of discipline, diligence, moderation, and maturity. But the world often tempts us to behave otherwise. Everywhere we turn, or so it seems, we are faced with powerful temptations to behave in undisciplined, ungodly ways.

God's Word instructs us to be disciplined in our thoughts and our actions; God's Word warns us against the dangers of impulsive behavior. As believers in a just God, we should act and react accordingly.

If you're about to do something, but you're not sure if it's the right thing to do, slow down! It's better to make a good decision than a fast decision.

"WALKING CHRIST'S PATH"

Each day, as we awaken from sleep, we are confronted with countless opportunities to serve God and to follow in the footsteps of His Son. When we do, our heavenly Father guides our steps and blesses our endeavors.

As citizens of a fast-changing world, we face challenges that sometimes leave us feeling overworked, overcommitted, and overwhelmed. But God has a different plan for us. He intends that we slow down long enough to praise Him and to glorify His Son. When we do, He lifts our spirits and enriches our lives.

Today provides a glorious opportunity to place yourself in the service of the One who is the Giver of all blessings. May you seek His will, may you trust in His word, and may you walk in the footsteps of His Son.

"THE ULTIMATE PARTNER"

If you want to be successful--genuinely successful in the things that really matter--you need a partner. That Partner is God. And the good news is this: when you humbly and sincerely ask God to become your partner, He will grant your request and transform your life.

Is your life a testimony to the personal relationship that you enjoy with your heavenly Father? Or have you compartmentalized your faith to a few hours on Sunday morning? If you genuinely wish to make God a full-time partner, you must allow Him to reign over aspect of your life and every day of your week. When you do, you'll be amazed at the things that the two of you, working together, can accomplish.

"HABITS THAT ARE PLEASING TO GOD"

It's an old saying and a true one: First, you make your habits, and then your habits make you. Some habits will inevitably bring you closer to God; other habits will lead you away from the path He has chosen for you. If you sincerely desire to improve your spiritual health, you must honestly examine the habits that make up the fabric of your day. And you must abandon those habits that are displeasing to God.

If you trust God, and if you keep asking for His help, He can transform your life. If you sincerely ask Him to help you, the same God who created the universe will help you defeat the harmful habits that have heretofore defeated you. So, if at first you don't succeed, keep praying. God is listening, and He's ready to help you become a better person if you ask Him . . . so ask today.

A timely tip: Choose your habits carefully. Habits are easier to make than they are to break, so be careful!
