Happy Pentecost Sunday!
Pentecost marks the decent of the HolySpirit that fell on the disciples/apostles, people in the upper room when they were on one accord.
The HolySpirit made them bold to share the Gospel, the Good News, the Word of the Lord!
Read Acts 2
Compels Us to:
1. Break Down Cultural Barriers
The Command: Speak "in their own languages" (Acts 2:6).Your Action: Actively reach out to marginalized groups, foster inclusivity in your local community, and ensure the message of hope is communicated in ways that the diverse, modern world can readily understand and relate to.
2. Practice Radical GenerosityThe Command: They "sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need" (Acts 2:45).Your Action: Identify tangible physical and financial needs in your local area—such as supporting local Old Jamestown mutual aid groups, food banks, or directly helping neighbors facing economic hardship.
3. Share Your Faith with BoldnessThe Command: Peter stands up fearlessly to preach the Gospel after receiving the Spirit (Acts 2:14-36).Your Action: Stop relying on your own strength or fearing judgment. Lean into the courage provided by the Holy Spirit to share your personal testimony and values with coworkers, friends, and family.
4. Devote Yourself to Community and LearningThe Command: "They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship..." (Acts 2:42).Your Action: Engage consistently with a local church, small group, or community of faith to grow spiritually, serve others collaboratively, and break bread together.
5. Expect God to Use Your GiftsThe Command: "...your sons and daughters will prophesy" (Acts 2:17).Your Action: Identify your unique spiritual gifts (e.g., teaching, serving, showing mercy) and utilize them for the common good of your community.
