Episode 7: Don't Treat Covenant Casually
Jesus said:
"It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' But I say to you..."
— Matthew 5:31–32
Jesus is continuing the pattern we've been seeing.
"You have heard..."
"But I say to you..."
He's taking us beyond the letter of the law and revealing God's heart.
In Jesus' day, divorce could be treated far too casually, leaving the more vulnerable spouse exposed and discarded.
Jesus confronts that mindset.
Why?
Because Kingdom Living takes covenant seriously.
Marriage isn't simply a contract that says,
"I'll stay as long as this works for me."
Covenant says,
"My commitment matters."
Jesus is reminding us that people are not disposable.
Relationships aren't something we should enter casually...
and abandon casually.
And this principle reaches beyond marriage.
Kingdom people understand the value of:
Commitment.
Faithfulness.
Honor.
Integrity.
We live in a culture that often says,
"If it gets difficult, walk away."
But Kingdom Living asks a different question:
"What does faithfulness look like when things become difficult?"
Now, this doesn't mean remaining in situations of abuse, danger, or ongoing destructive behavior.
God cares about justice, safety, truth, and restoration.
But wherever covenant can be honored...
Kingdom people don't treat commitment casually.
👣 KINGDOM CHALLENGE
Ask yourself:
"Where have I become too casual about commitment?"
Is there a relationship, responsibility, promise, or assignment that God is calling you to honor with greater faithfulness?
🙏 PRAYER
Father,
Teach me to be a person of covenant, integrity, and faithfulness.
Help me honor the commitments You have entrusted to me. Give me wisdom to know when to persevere, when to seek reconciliation, and when boundaries are necessary.
Let my relationships reflect Your faithfulness and Your love.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.

Episode 6: Where Does Sin Begin?

Jesus said:

"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery.' But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart."
— Matthew 5:27–28

Now Jesus takes us somewhere uncomfortable.

He moves from what we do...

to what we desire.

The religious standard said:

"Don't commit adultery."

Jesus says:

"Let's talk about what is happening in your heart before you ever get there."

Because Kingdom Living isn't just about controlling our behavior.

It's about allowing God to transform our desires, thoughts, motives, and imagination.

And notice something important:

Jesus isn't saying that noticing someone's beauty is sinful.

He's addressing the deliberate cultivation of a desire that treats another person as an object for our gratification.

That's why the battle often begins long before the action.

What we repeatedly entertain in our hearts can eventually influence what we do with our lives.

And Jesus gives some very strong language about dealing with whatever causes us to stumble.

His point isn't that we should literally harm ourselves.

His point is:

Take sin seriously.

Don't casually make room for something that is destroying your relationship with God.

👣 KINGDOM CHALLENGE

Ask yourself:

"What am I allowing into my heart and mind that God is asking me to surrender?"

Don't just ask God to change your behavior.

Ask Him to transform your desires.

🙏 PRAYER

Father,

Search my heart and my thoughts.

Show me anything that is pulling my desires away from You. Give me the strength to surrender what doesn't honor You and the wisdom to guard what I allow into my heart and mind.

Create in me a desire for what is pure, holy, and pleasing to You.

Let my private life reflect the character of Christ just as much as my public life does.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

Episode 5: What If Anger Is a Heart Issue?
Jesus said:
"You have heard that it was said... 'You shall not murder.'"
— Matthew 5:21
Most of us can breathe a sigh of relief.
"Well, I've never murdered anybody!"
But Jesus takes the conversation deeper.
He says that anger, contempt, and broken relationships matter to God too.
Why?
Because Kingdom righteousness isn't just concerned with what your hands do.
It's concerned with what's happening in your heart.
Jesus isn't saying anger and murder are identical.
He's showing us that destructive actions often begin with destructive attitudes in the heart.
And then He gives us a Kingdom priority:
Reconciliation matters.
Jesus says that if you remember your brother or sister has something against you, go and be reconciled.
Don't just bring your gift to the altar.
Go make it right.
Kingdom Living means we don't hide behind religious activity while carrying unresolved conflict.
Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do...
is have the difficult conversation.
👣 Kingdom Challenge:
Ask yourself:
"Is there someone I need to forgive, reconcile with, or make things right with?"
Don't let pride keep you from pursuing peace.
🙏 Prayer:
Father, search my heart and reveal any anger, resentment, or unforgiveness I've allowed to remain there. Give me the humility and courage to pursue reconciliation and reflect the heart of Jesus.

Episode 4: Did Jesus Come to Change God's Word?
Jesus made a statement that probably surprised His listeners:
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them."
— Matthew 5:17
So what does "fulfill" mean?
The Greek word is plēroō (Strong's G4137).
It carries the idea of filling something to its fullness, completing it, or bringing it to its intended purpose.
Jesus wasn't throwing away God's Word.
He was revealing its fullness.
Then He says something even more challenging:
"Unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven."
— Matthew 5:20
Wait... WHAT?
How could anyone be more righteous than people known for keeping religious rules?
Jesus is about to show us.
The Kingdom isn't simply about outward behavior.
It's about inward transformation.
You can follow the rule...
and still have a heart far from God.
Jesus is taking us deeper:
Not just what you do...
but why you do it.
That's Kingdom Living.
👣 Kingdom Challenge:
Today, don't just ask:
"Did I do the right thing?"
Ask:
"Was my heart right before God?"
🙏 Prayer:
Father, don't let me settle for outward religion. Transform my heart so that my actions flow from genuine love, obedience, and devotion to You.
Amen.

Episode 3: Don't Hide Your Light
Jesus said:
"You are the light of the world."
— Matthew 5:14
Think about that.
Jesus didn't say,
"One day, you might become light."
He said,
"You are."
If Christ lives in you, His light is meant to be visible through you.
But then Jesus gives us a warning:
"Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket."
— Matthew 5:15
A light hidden is a light that isn't fulfilling its purpose.
Your faith isn't meant to be hidden in a church building on Sunday.
Your light belongs in your:
🏠 Home
💼 Workplace
🤝 Relationships
🌎 Community
And notice why Jesus tells us to let our light shine:
"...so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
The goal isn't:
"Look at me."
The goal is:
"Look at my Father."
That's Kingdom Living.
Your life becomes a window through which others can see the King.
👣 Kingdom Challenge:
Ask yourself:
"Where is God asking me to let His light shine through me today?"
🙏 Prayer:
Father, let the light of Christ shine through my words, my actions, and my character. May the people I encounter see something of You—and may You receive all the glory.

Episode 2: What Kind of Salt Are You?
Jesus said:
"You are the salt of the earth."
— Matthew 5:13
But why did Jesus choose salt?
Salt was valuable. It was used to preserve, season, and enhance.
And here's the Kingdom principle:
Salt doesn't change what it touches by becoming something else.
It influences by being salt.
That's a picture of Kingdom living.
You don't have to become like the world to influence the world.
You don't have to compromise your convictions to be accepted.
You bring the character of the King into the places God has assigned you.
Your workplace.
Your family.
Your friendships.
Your community.
Wherever God sends you...
you carry Kingdom influence with you.
Jesus then gives us a warning:
"But if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored?"
In other words:
Don't lose what makes you different.
👣 Kingdom Challenge:
Ask yourself:
"Am I influencing my environment—or is my environment influencing me?"
🙏 Prayer:
Lord, help me remain faithful to who You have called me to be. Let my life preserve what is good, bring flavor where there is emptiness, and point people toward You.
Amen.

Episode 1: Are You Salt or Light?
We just finished discovering Kingdom DNA — The Character of the King in His People.
Now we're asking:
What does that character look like when we live it out?
Jesus said:
"You are the salt of the earth... You are the light of the world."
— Matthew 5:13–14
Notice what Jesus didn't say:
"You need to become salt."
"You need to become light."
He said:
"You ARE."
Kingdom character isn't meant to stay hidden inside of us.
What God is forming IN us is meant to flow THROUGH us.
Salt influences what it touches.
Light illuminates what is dark.
So here's your Kingdom question:
When people encounter you, can they see and experience something of the King?
👣 Kingdom Challenge:
Today, be intentional about bringing the character of Jesus into one person's situation.
🙏 Prayer:
"Lord, let Your character in me become Your influence through me."
