Psalm 46 Counseling

Psalm 46 Counseling Caring for the body, mind, heart, and soul of a person through Christian counseling services in Texas

I have had a hymn that I grew up with stuck in my head for the past week--"He Keeps Me Singing". Do you know it? If you do, you know that an upbeat, chipper melody is the background of these lyrics. But I think that this song sung in more of a minor key is more fitting. That seems to match more of life, doesn't it? I think there's a temptation for happiness to be the only emotion that can accompany sweetness with Jesus. But, that's not true. If this is where you are today, you are not alone. Your cry sung in a minor key is just as sweet to Him as the one with an upbeat melody.

I know it's dark today. I know it's been dark for a while now.
I see you. Jesus sees you. Raise your eyes to Him.
Sunday is coming.

So, how are you waiting today? How does the hope and light of the gospel breathe new life into your circumstance? How do you rest in this? It's not easy getting there, so give yourself grace. Jesus does. If you want someone to sit with you in the waiting, to help sort through the pieces, to help you hold on to hope--reach out.

You may know the story I talked about yesterday. You know that Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. So, it's here too that the gospel gives us life. It gives us hope. Because we will have to wait. Jesus gives us so much now. And there's so much more coming. But, we must wait. Because what He is doing in the lives of those following Him--man, it's like stepping from death to life.

It's the waiting that gets to us. Sometimes what we lack is knowing Jesus, but that's not always it. Like with this particular "I AM". Jesus was talking to Martha here who knew and believed that Jesus was her salvation...and she knew her brother had just died. And Jesus missed it. He could've prevented it. Yet, He didn't. She didn't doubt His power or God-ness. It was the waiting that got to Martha. And it's often the waiting that gets to us.

There are times when people come to counseling as their last hope. There's nothing but darkness and death around them. They need someone or something that can offer more. Again, Jesus says "I AM".

How do we know that Jesus can actually help with what we seek? Take a look at the Fruit of the Spirit here. I have never counseled anyone that wasn't seeking something from this list. Friends, that is what Jesus calls you to and WANTS to produce in you. He is for you, not against you.

Our Good Shepherd both calls us to Him and is the source for fruit-producing life. He is the Vine; we are the branches. But, we have to know His voice (known through His word) to know when we are called. He's prepared to be the source for what we ask. But to do this, we must remain in Him.
