You want to know something interesting that has helped me when I am feeling afraid? God never tells us just stop it when we encounter fear. No, He tells us He will BE with us. And that hope, that sheild, that love, that redemption is why we can not be afraid even with the enemy so in sight. He rarely removes the circumstance or enemy; He gives us what is better-- more of Himself.

But now thus says the Lord, He who created you, O Jacob, He who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior... Isaiah 43:1-3

Have you heard the CityAlight song "Yet Not I"? It's one of my favorites. So much truth in that song. But, I've sung it so much, that I didn't hear the words in the same way until yesterday. Friends, it's been a HEAVY season. And when life happens, we (I) tend to forget who He truly is. So, I'm grateful for moments where God gives me what I need most and the Holy Spirit hits me in the face with the right view and understanding of who Jesus is. I have the first part of verse 1 of the song in the graphic, but I encourage you to listen to this song or read through the lyrics. Let it be a motivator to spend time in gratitude for who He is and what He has done.

Do you realize that He is your joy, your righteousness, your freedom, your steadfast love, your deep and boundless peace? Not that He possesses those things but He IS those things?

God, let me remember that more and more.

Thankful for reminders towards truth. Wrestling with feelings is hard. They are LOUD. But they also aren't your only option for knowing the truth.

Learning to seek truth when the world around us-- and even our own minds-- lie to us is paramount. It's hard, but, like a muscle, it grows and becomes easier the more you "work out" in this way. More than that, God has told us to do this in His Word (Col. 3:1-2, Rom. 12:2, Ps. 119:15-16)! That's good news for us. He isn't shocked or disappointed when we are struggling to remember truth. No, He gives us ways to hear the truth through Himself, His Word, and the community He gives us... because He loves us. Some ways I seek truth are meditating on Scripture, telling Him how I need help, talking to friends centered in Christ, and by listening to music. One of my favorites is tagged here😉

Absolutely. He WANTS you to come to Him. Your avoidance in the little things, the distance created by trying to figure it out on your own--it's not making you stronger. When you turn to Him for even the "little" things, He doesn't respond with disappointment--He provides faithful care and deeper security.

Maybe God hasn't brought you to the end of yourself because He is careless or cruel. Maybe, by letting you feel overwhelmed and burned out, He is allowing you to feel the crushing weight of holding on to things that will never bring you what you truly need. Maybe what you're feeling actually is the Lord making space for the peace and simplicity you've been asking for...but you haven't let go of the things that are killing you. Maybe that's why it hurts so bad.

It's ok to choose to let go and rest in Him.

We all struggle with identity. This is why in counseling, I generally start with identity work. No one has told me that identity is the "issue", but it always comes up. We want to start with anger or anxiety or trauma or relationships. Now please hear me say that those things matter! BUT...How can we heal from the things that are slowly killing us if we don't know that we are going into that fight accepted, redefined, and un-alone? Knowing who and whose we are, as believers, changes everything.

One of the things I love about my job is that I get to sit at the foot of the cross with my clients as God reveals His character during session. The kindness and complexity of that is hard for me to wrap my mind around. And at the same time, I don't know why I am still surprised that He continues to show up and be the God He has always been! He tells us over and over that He doesn't leave and gives us what we need, including providing loving reminders to us about who He truly is. He really is the Wonderful Counselor.
