Zion Missionary Baptist Church pauses to honor the life and legacy of Pastor Glenn Shelton—a faithful servant whose ministry reached far beyond the pulpit.
For nearly four decades, Pastor Shelton shepherded Second Baptist Church of Lincoln, but his footprints can be found throughout the church and the community. He served his country in the United States Air Force, served as an Alderman for the City of Lincoln, helped create educational opportunities through the Martin Luther King Jr. Minority Student Scholarship at Lincoln College, served as a Lincoln College Trustee, and gave decades of leadership to the Wood River Baptist District Association, the Baptist General State Convention of Illinois, and the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., Congress of Christian Education.
Some people leave memories.
Others leave monuments—not always monuments made of stone, but monuments built in people, institutions, churches, communities, opportunities, and lives.
Pastor Glenn Shelton built those kinds of monuments.
His voice may now be silent, but the sermon of his life will continue to preach.
Pastor Joshua M. West and Lady Angela West are especially grateful for the consistent warmth and kindness Pastor Shelton extended toward us throughout the years, as well as the graciousness always shown by his beloved wife, Lady Ginger Shelton. We will remember it.
To Lady Ginger, the Shelton family, Second Baptist Church, and the many lives touched by this remarkable servant, Zion Missionary Baptist Church extend our prayers, love, and deepest condolences.
Pastor Glenn Shelton planted too much, served too faithfully, and touched too many lives to ever truly be gone.
His labor has become legacy.
And he will forever live in the hearts of the Zion Missionary Baptist Church family.
Well done, Pastor Shelton. Well done.
