We are committed to lovingly warning people so they do not end up being abused in any manner, as others have been, by pastor and biblical counselor JUSTIN RAY NELSON of SOUTH CREEK CHURCH in Springfield, Missouri.
We want it to be known upfront that JUSTIN RAY NELSON has been given numerous opportunities to respond to these truthful allegations, the calls for him to be accountable and repentant, and our offers for genuine biblical reconciliation. We have even offered for there to be an unbiased group of third parties to provide binding Christian mediation and/or arbitration as 1 Corinthians 6:1-8 commands when there is an unresolved division in the Body of Christ. All of these efforts have been completely ignored by him.
We are convicted in our Christian conscience by Scripture in 2 Timothy 4:14-15 that this is what we need to do because we are victims of his abuse, plus one of us, ironically, oversaw his ordination to the ministry. Therefore, we have a biblical, moral, and ethical responsibility to protect others from experiencing the same abuse we have.
JUSTIN RAY NELSON has been known to severely spiritually abuse already repentant people that the entire congregation of SOUTH CREEK CHURCH knew were under the care of physicians for debilitating depression, excruciating anxiety, complicated grief, immense embarrassment, extreme humiliation, and unbelievable shame, by subjecting them intentionally and maliciously to foreseeable emotional and relational duress, distress, and damage. He did this through deliberate public misstatements about these individuals where he dishonestly presented as fact his interpretation of facts, the misuse of pastoral authority, the misapplication of church discipline, the mistreatment of shunning, and the mishandling of Scripture to rationalize and justify his unloving and sinful abuse of them to others.
JUSTIN RAY NELSON is a dangerous spiritual predator. He is extremely incompetent and inept in dealing with serious spiritual, emotional, or relational problems that individuals or couples are struggling with. He is absolutely not trauma-informed and does not know how to recognize or help with emotional trauma. He does not make sound judgments or decisions in those situations. His lack of wisdom is staggering. He has also been known to take hurting couples and indicate that because of their struggles, the congregation at large is hurting more, and therefore, they should be preoccupied with the feelings of those in the congregation. He has also demanded under threat of church discipline that selected hurting people obey 100% of his extra-biblical advice and counsel, including the toleration of repeated abusive confrontations from others in the congregation over secondary and tertiary matters, instead of correctly allowing those he abused to have freedom of conscience regarding Christian non-essentials. In a cult-like fashion, he has denied people due process, refused to genuinely listen to them and allow them to argue their case or express their disagreements with his leadership, emotionally isolated them, and acted in other domineering and dictatorial ways. He likes to be manipulative and shut down communication as a means of control. He has all the signs of an authoritarian narcissist.
Under JUSTIN RAY NELSON'S leadership, SOUTH CREEK CHURCH has become a high-control, cultic, and toxic culture. Unfortunately, the professing believers at SOUTH CREEK CHURCH do no realize that a church and its leaders do not have to be heretical regarding the doctrine of salvation to be cultic; they can also be cult-like in their policies, procedures, and practices.
JUSTIN RAY NELSON is also biblically disqualified from pastoral ministry for many reasons, not the least of which is his extreme and chronic lack of self-control, "lording" his authority over members and traumatizing them to the point where they now have PTSD symptoms they did not have before, being covetous, being self-willed, being arrogant and prideful, and being unwilling to be mutually accountable to others, especially those he has abused. There is literally no one who can fire him according to the founding documents of this church. He has zero accountability to anyone who could or would terminate his employment for his malpractice. JUSTIN RAY NELSON loves money. He has expressed his ultimate desire to have a biblical counseling ministry on a cruise ship, where he can make money from tourists and passengers. He has no formal theological seminary training and it shows in his poor theology where he adds to what Scripture teaches regarding what constitutes real repentance. He wrongly believes his position of authority allows him to make definitive pronouncements about others without the possibility of error. Like pronouncing someone unrepentant even though they are no longer committing the same sin, and then disciplining them as being unrepentant. As opposed to someone who says that someone is not repentant because they are continuing in the same sin. Be very much aware, that you will not be safe being transparent and vulnerable with JUSTIN RAY NELSON. He will take advantage of you and traumatize you emotionally and spiritually. He is an evil person who should never ever be trusted, especially with sensitive information or major problems, because he uses the information to control, manipulate, and hurt people. This is why we have in our possession, emails from people stating that they were not comfortable going to him for marital counseling. Those individuals were absolutely right for not doing so.
One of us has known JUSTIN RAY NELSON since 1992, so these accusations are not based on short-term or shallow interactions. They are based on the fact that we have come to the conclusion that he is a spiritual fraud pretending to be a Christian. He has a long history of acting and being involved in drama and plays. If there is one thing he does better than singing it is acting and pretending. He is a counterfeit believer who is in the ministry for money and the accomplishment of his personal agenda. He is one of the fake Christians the Apostle Paul described in Philippians 3:19 when he said they are those, "whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things." (NASB95)
