As America approaches its 250th birthday, it's worth asking: What truths are we passing on to the next generation?

Every child is being shaped by the people, ideas, and institutions around them. That's why strong families, faithful mentors, and communities of character matter more than ever.

Let's raise up men who honor God, love their neighbors, lead with integrity, serve others, work hard, tell the truth, and live with courage.

Let's give the next generation something solid to stand on.

Francis Marion was the kind of man boys dream of becoming. Riding through the Carolina swamps with mud on his boots and conviction in his bones, the “Swamp Fox” led exhausted Patriots against impossible odds during the American War for Independence.

He fought fiercely without becoming cruel, led boldly without seeking glory, and endured hardship without complaint.
His men were outnumbered, underfed, and hunted relentlessly—yet Marion never surrendered his courage or his character. Even his enemies respected him.

That is strength.

True strength is not swagger or bravado, often it is restraint, discipline, steadiness under pressure. It is the ability to govern your temper, your appetites, your fears, and your actions when the stakes are high.

That is the kind of manhood boys are starving for today.

In Trail Life, boys learn those lessons around campfires, on muddy trails, and under the weight of responsibility. They carry packs, lead teams, face adversity, and discover that courage is not recklessness and confidence is not arrogance.

Because to thrive for another 250 years, America needs men of character.

This weekend, Lake Stevens Trail Life Troop #3456 braved the elements and attended the Puget Sound Camporee.

The theme of this camp was honoring America's 250th Anniversary.
The brave soldiers of the American Revolution had to endure extreme conditions to fight for our freedom.

Our troop got just a small taste of that by camping in the rain and being in uncomfortable situations.
It is a good reminder that in comfort and discomfort, we will lift up the name of Jesus.
