With great sadness and a heavy heart I would like to inform you that my dear friend and only "Dad" I have ever known, Martin Sutton, passed away at 5 am Bulgarian time on 28th March. His funeral will be held tomorrow at 3 pm Bulgarian time in the village where he was so happy to live. The funeral will be presided by his dear friend and Methodist minister Rev. A PERMANENT PLACE
I have been cleaning and organizing my house. One of my main objectives has been to clean out the drawers and a trunk/bench in my living room, and to clear off the surfaces that have gotten cluttered. The small drawers in my desk and cupboard, and my storage bench had gotten so filled up that finding anything in them just got to be a nightmare. My quick rummaging through stuffed drawers often ended up with cluttered surfaces.

The problem? I had given a permanent place to things that were unnecessary to quickly deal with temporary clutter. I needed to reorganize to use those permanent places more effectively. So I got some boxes and emptied everything. I sorted things into shoe boxes to return things oo where they belonged, and just threw away stuff that was just taking up space that I needed to function efficiently in my home.

This made me think about how we give prime real estate in our lives, priorities, and thinking to things that hinder and make our lives messy. Rather than dealing with clutter (problems) in the present, we stash it away out of sight, but in the end we put them where we continually come across them when trying to reach for something important. Old hurts, bad thinking, old habits, unhealthy relationships, poor priorities keep resurfacing until we put them in their proper place.

This week I went by the children's home for children with disabilities to organize a team painting project in May. I had donated them my cage of finches after I moved into my house a few years ago, and i walked over to look at them. They were down to three. (There had been in 14). The social worker told me that those three had actually been hatched right there, but they were all males. She asked me if I could bring them some females, so we bought three female finches. The staff was so excite. The children were at school. So now we are hoping to see some eggs and then some baby finches before too long! It takes more than food and clothing to make a happy home. I am so glad we can be a part!

Today was a wonderful day! In December, Obedient Life Ministries/Balkan Hope Foundation received forty larges banana boxes full off shoes and clothing were donated from Belgium and the United Kingdom to be distributed to orphans and the poor. We were able to distribute this clothing to children's homes, churches, poor villages and families. So many children, youth and families were blessed by these donations! With all the sorting, washing, and packaging of these shoes, coats and clothing for all seasons my house looked like a warehouse. (I actually had to sleep on couch for some weeks, because I couldn't get to my bed!) Today we were able to deliver the last eleven cases of clothing to a large church in the city of Samokov that has a social help program to a community of 10,000 Roma that includes food and clothing distribution and a feeding program for children and widows.They were very thankful to receive that clothing. We did our best to make sure the clothing was not just dropped off, but actually given responsibly to people in need. Continue to pray for us as we serve the orphans and needy in Bulgaria, and that we might show the future and the hope that God has for them as we shine His light in the darkness.
