We doomed ourselves as a species when we began viewing “faster” as “better; when we sacrificed QUALITY to do less work and “save time”. We stopped making things from scratch with wholesome ingredients because someone put a packet of powder flavoring with artificial dyes and preservatives in a box and added “DONE IN 30 SECONDS” in bold letters.
And we wonder why our food has become literal poison. We wonder why we are riddled with chronic and terminal illness in what should be the prime years of our lives.
Everyone loves a good cup of hot cocoa in the cold months. Somehow it went from something that nourished the mind to what you see on the shelf today. Most conventional commercial hot chocolate mixes are made with sugar as a primary ingredient, along with ingredients such as corn syrup solids, processed cocoa, hydrogenated oils, emulsifiers, and artificial flavors. They’re designed primarily for sweetness and convenience, like most things we consume today. But that’s not where its origins lie or why it used to be considered an actual health drink! Cacao gives chocolate its flavor. And when we consume it without processing the life out of it, we can begin to understand why it became such a famous delicacy in the beginning, before the rush of modern humanity came and left it a shell of what it once was.
CARDIOVASCULAR & CIRCULATORY SUPPORT: Cacao naturally contains flavanols, powerful plant compounds studied for their ability to support healthy blood vessel function, nitric oxide production, and circulation. Certain flavanol-rich cacao preparations have even demonstrated modest improvements in blood pressure.
BRAIN HEALTH & COGNITIVE FUNCTION: Cacao flavanols have been studied for their potential to support cerebral blood flow and aspects of cognitive performance. Its naturally occurring theobromine also provides a gentle stimulant effect.
MOOD & MENTAL WELLNESS: Cacao contains theobromine and small amounts of caffeine, compounds that may promote alertness and contribute to that uplifting feeling many people associate with chocolate.
ANTIOXIDANT PROTECTION: Cacao is naturally rich in polyphenols, including flavanols, which have antioxidant activity and may help support the body’s defenses against oxidative stress.
NATURAL MINERAL CONTENT: Cacao provides magnesium, iron, copper, and manganese, minerals involved in normal muscle and nerve function, energy metabolism, red blood cell production, and cellular health.
METABOLIC WELLNESS: Emerging research suggests cacao polyphenols may support aspects of glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity, although more human research is needed.
Pure certified organic cacao can be complimented with ingredients like Ceylon cinnamon, which provides warming flavor and antioxidant compounds, and ginger root, celebrated for its digestive benefits and naturally occurring anti-inflammatory compounds. That’s what we use in our nourishing Cacao Bliss blend.
And no, it’s not instant. But over here we appreciate the time that goes into what goes into US.
You start by warming milk or a substitute of your choice on the stove. Add in our Cacao mix and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring frequently. You then run the infused liquid through a fine mesh strainer to catch any larger pieces of cacao nibs. The cacao is absolutely both edible and beneficial but most people want the creamy consistency. I love eating mine! Once it’s strained to your liking, add a dash of your favorite sweetener(a dash is truly all it takes, it’s wonderfully rich as is!) Then you’ve got a warm and creamy super food evening cacao drink that is wonderful for your heart, your cognitive health, mood boosting and soothing to your soul!
This is what “hot cocoa” was intended to give us all along! Once you’ve had it, convenience somehow becomes much less appealing!
