Day 32 of the PROVERBS CHALLENGE
Since we ended our challenge yesterday, I felt it would be fitting for me to give a concluding comment. Don't get worried, you didn't miss reading Chapter 32. Hopefully you read something in Proverbs during the month of May, that maybe you never really saw before. That then became challenging, convicting or something worth considering. My comments each day tended to be on the more serious side, so I thought I would take a different approach today as I wrap this challenge up. Proverbs 17:22 (NLT) says this: "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength." I needed some good medicine today, so here goes in keeping with that CONCEALED WEAPON OF OURS...THE TONGUE! Someone once said, "I NEED A SPEED BUMP BETWEEN MY BRAIN AND MY MOUTH!" After this month of reading Proverbs, let's not become JUST HEARERS OF GOD'S WORD...but DOERS OF GOD'S WORD. Now...I just had to attach the graphic below before I sign off today.

Day 31 of THE PROVERBS CHALLENGE
Hard to believe we are at the end of this book in the Bible. I've enjoyed reading many of the comments you have placed online. This chapter is usually referred to as "THE PROVERBS 31 WOMAN".
I must admit, I've never met a lady (or man) for that matter who does all that mentioned in Proverbs 31. But the verse that resonates with me is this one: Vs. 30 (NLT) "Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised."
I've never seen my wife plant a vineyard or make her own bedspread from scratch. But I know this, she loves the Lord. It was one of the very first things I ever noticed about her when she was 19 years old when we met. In July we will celebrate our 53rd Wedding Anniversary. And because of that, I want to end my comments about the Book of Proverbs praising Janice for the person she is. A wife, a mom and the spouse of a pastor (which is not easy). I am blessed to call her my wife. She deserves to be greatly praised!

Day 30 of the PROVERBS CHALLENGE
I noticed as I began reading, that King Solomon (who wrote most of the Book of Proverbs) was not the author of this chapter. A person by the name of Agur...who I had no clue who that was, so I consulted Mr. Ai. Apparently, he is identified only as "the son of Jakeh" and is famous for his deep humility, his reverence for God's word, and his use of numerical riddles to make observations about life and nature. The verse that resonated with me today was Vs. 5 (NLT) "Every word of God proves true.
He is a shield to all who come to him for protection." Since Proverbs talks a lot about "words", it is good to know that EVERY WORD OF GOD PROVES TRUE! I like how the ERV puts this verse. "You can trust this: Every word that God speaks is true. God is a safe place for those who go to him." Amen to that!

Day 29 of the PROVERBS CHALLENGE
I suggested people participate in this May challenge because I wanted you to see how often the Book of Proverbs talks about our words, what we say and how we say them. I call our TONGUE a CONCEALED WEAPON. To go along with that theme, I am highlighting vs. 20 today. "There is more hope for a fool than for someone who speaks without thinking." Instead of me commenting further I want to share a graphic with you that I saw recently.

Day 28 of the PROVERBS CHALLENGE
Vs. 13 (NLT) says: "People who conceal their sins will not prosper,
but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy."
There is really no such thing as SECRET SINS. Why? Because the Lord knows all about you. You might think no one knows, but someone does know. Romans 2:16 (The Living Bible) says: "The day will surely come when at God’s command Jesus Christ will judge the secret lives of everyone, their inmost thoughts and motives; this is all part of God’s great plan, which I proclaim." If you have a concealed sin that you think no one knows about, it's best, ASAP, to confess that sin to the Lord (since he already knows about it anyway) and turn away from it. Don't do it anymore.

Day 27 of the PROVERBS CHALLENGE
Can you believe, it's already the 27th of May? I want to share one verse today and then one thought about this Proverbs challenge.
Vs. 17 reminded me of the name we gave to my former Men's Group in a previous church I pastored. We called it IRON MEN. Our theme verse was Proverbs 27:17 (NLT) "As iron sharpens iron,
so a friend sharpens a friend." The Amplified Bible puts it this way: "As iron sharpens iron, So, one man sharpens [and influences] another [through discussion]." The EASY version says: "People learn from each other, as one iron tool can make another one sharp." Lastly, the Message version puts Vs. 17 like this: "You use steel to sharpen steel, and one friend sharpens another." Having great, GODLY friends is a treasure. I Corinthians 15:33 says: "bad company corrupts good character." That's why it is so important for you to have great GODLY people in your inner circle of friends. They will help sharpen (instead of dull) your character!
Now my thought about this Proverbs Challenge. I have been reading each chapter of Proverbs this month maybe a little more intently than ever before, because I have been "searching" for that one thought that really resonated with me and then I could share it here on Facebook with you. As a result of "intently reading and searching", I gained more out of this challenge. Have you found that to be true with you as well?

Day 26 of the PROVERBS CHALLENGE
Today I am not focusing on one specific verse but rather one WORD - "FOOL". That word was used at least 11 times in the first 12 verses of Chapter 26. When you hear the word FOOL, What comes to your mind first? That's probably NOT what the Bible is referring to here. In the Bible, particularly in the book of Proverbs, a fool is not defined by a lack of intelligence or a low IQ. Instead, it refers to a moral and spiritual condition: someone who rejects God’s wisdom, acts without regard for consequences, and is completely unteachable. Because wisdom in Proverbs begins with the "fear of the Lord" (Proverbs 1:7), a fool is ultimately someone who disregards God's order and ways. If you have been reading my comments during this month's challenge, you know that I will use different versions and translations of the scriptures to help you get a better idea of what that passage means. Usually, it will take a difficult word or phrase and put it in simpler terms even "I" can understand! I looked up Proverbs 26 in about 10 or so different Bible versions and every one of them used the term "FOOL". No other word for it. A FOOL was a FOOL. No other way to say it! When we realize what a fool really was in Proverbs 26, LET'S NOT BECOME FOOLS! Let's become FOLLOWERS of Jesus instead!

Day 25 of the PROVERBS CHALLENGE
Verse 28 of Chapter 25 resonated with me today as I was reading. The NLT puts it this way: "A person without self-control
is like a city with broken-down walls." The Amplified Version puts it this way: "Like a city that is broken down and without walls [leaving it unprotected] Is a man who has no self-control over his spirit [and sets himself up for trouble]." In the Bible we read of many cities having a wall built around them for protection. The Proverb I highlighted today is telling us just as a walled city in the ancient world was vulnerable to invaders and ruin, an individual who cannot control their impulses is exposed to harm, bad decisions, and spiritual or emotional destruction. Without the "walls" of self-control, anyone or anything (temptation, anger, peer pressure) can easily storm into your life and cause chaos. Pastor Alistair Begg said this: "Self-control is the Spirit-enabled, Word-guided ability to avoid excesses and to stay within the God-given boundaries." A lot of churches condemn many things that God did not specifically condone or condemn. What God did condemn was EXCESSES in many areas of our lives, and that is why we need to demonstrate SELF-CONTROL.

Day 24 of the PROVERBS CHALLENGE
This was the first chapter this month that a verse did not jump out at me right away. I settled on Vs. 26 (NLT) "An honest answer is like a kiss of friendship." I wanted to see how other translations put it. The EASY version put it like this: "Somebody who gives you an honest answer is your true friend." The Living Bible said: "It is an honor to receive a frank reply." The Voice put it like this: "A straight answer is as precious as a kiss on the lips." How many times, when someone asked you; "HOW ARE YOU DOING?", you answered "Fine or OK!" when in fact you were feeling terrible? That wasn't an honest or straight answer, was it? At times, you might feel it's a trick question when your spouse, girlfriend or mother asks you, "Does this dress make me look fat?" That's like a NO WIN answer, right? This reminds me of a verse coming up in a few days in Proverbs 27: 6 (NLT) that says: "Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy." I hope this challenges all of us to use our concealed weapon...our tongue....to just give a straight, honest answer when asked a question. "An honest answer is like a kiss of friendship."
