"I charge you all that each one of you concentrate all the thoughts of your heart on love and unity. A thought of hatred must be destroyed by a much more powerful thought of love" -'Abdu'L-Baha
We are the Sonoma County Bahai's aiming to build community with a spirit
ual foundation. We are a growing group part of a global Baha'i family. As a whole, we come from virtually every nation, ethnic group, race, and educational background while sharing a common vision of humanity's bright future. As Baha'is we dedicate ourselves to the path of service and participation in building a new world of peace, justice, and unity for all. The Faith's focused activities provide ample opportunities for everyone to contribute their talents to this lofty cause. Our Intentions include:
-Sharing the joy of heightened conversations with others
-Creating spiritual environments in the form of interfaith devotional meetings in our homes.
-Hosting study groups to put into practice the Faith's teachings and principles.
-Help raise up our most precious resource; the next generation of youth through children's classes in our neighborhood.
-Empower young people by mentoring youth and teen service groups.
-Strengthen our community by inviting friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers to these activities. The Bahá'í Faith was founded in Iran (Persia) in 1844 and now has more than five million adherents in 236 countries and territories. Bahá'ís come from nearly every national, ethnic and religious background, making the Bahá'í Faith the second-most-widespread religion in the world. Bahá'ís view the world's major religions as a part of a single, progressive process through which God reveals His will to humanity. Bahá'u'lláh (1817-1892), the Founder of the Bahá'í Faith, is recognized as the most recent in a line of Divine Messengers that includes Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Zoroaster, Christ, and Muhammad. There is no clergy in the Faith and the affairs of the Bahá'í community are administered through a system of elected councils at the local, national and international levels. Every one of us is called upon individually to serve the Faith and come together to study and spiritually empower our community. There are approximately 165,000 members of the Bahá'í Faith in the United States and growing, who annually elect the nine-member National Spiritual Assembly.
