Hey, there! My name (the owner of this page) is Lorena. And I am a 32 year old, Christian autistic woman. And I created this page out of a honest heart cry for other autistic men and women to be seen by the collective," big C" Church, Christ's international collective church body.
I feel as though there is an assumption and tendency amongst most christian, particularly protestant-pentecostal and charismatic church circles, that hyperfocus on the supernatural/spiritual realm, and spiritual gifts, and whatnot, to view autistic men and women, but *particularly* autistic girls & women as inferior or less than, because of a percieved "demonic influence," or other (frankly) religious nonesense and such, that should NEVER stop other women, christian autistic women from coming to and believing in Jesus, and having a place in the world and in their churches and in the world, period stop.
When I was diagnosed at the age of 18, there were predominantly, ONLY autistic resources and pages on, say, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr (for a few examples) that generally shared information ONLY for autism parents (and autistic people) about autistic boys/men. The level of resources for men vs. women were extremely uneven, unlevel. Thankfully, 10-15 years later, things have gotten so much better, in terms of the amount of information about men AND women who are autistic. It looks different in men than in women, but female Autism/Asperger's Syndrome wasn't studied until maybe a few decades ago, which was a shame but I'm glad it happened.
To my fellow christian neurotypical (non-autistic/neurodiverse) brothers & especially sisters in Christ;
My aim for this page is to share my heart for particularly autistic women who also happen to be Christians. (This stands for christian autistic women from any and all denominations aside from Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons, I'm just gonna say that up front, its not judgement)
Autistic women who are christian, like myself I feel, bump into a problem of other christians (either their families, friends or church families) not truly understanding them when they repost online (facebook, Instagram; anywhere their friends & family are online), and get few to zero likes/reactions or comments. Not much of any interaction with their immediate sphere. Christian autistic women don't want to share that stuff to bombard you with reposted/reshared autism/autism awareness or support "spam" content to bother you, (hopefully) neurotypical viewer/reader. They do so to share about a big part of themselves that they have to deal with day-to-day, daily. And christian neurotypical men and women in positions of authority in churches should not minimize their importance to their own church body, let alone church functioning or doubt their purpose within the church leader's communities as a whole. Because autistic men and (my focus being particularly) women have SO much to contribute to the body of Christ, let alone the entire world. And it's special.
At my last church, there was a person on the prayer team who wanted to help me "pray away" my autism. I'm sorry, nobody can take away my autism BUT JESUS, and absolutely nobody else! Thats like saying someone would try to pray away someone's autoimmune disease/disorder, D.I.D. (dissasociative identity disorder), or PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric/dysphoria disorder). It's nothing that humans can fully treat or cure themselves, but Jesus Christ himself.
All of what I've written here, is why I created this page. For those who want to step out of their comfort zone, and have the humility to learn about something that you may not understand fully without making assumptions or casting judgement... Then by all means, please like and/or follow to learn more. I'll do my best to reshare great autistic POV/autism content here as well as on my personal profile. Get ready for a different angle. đŸ˜‰
