I (Niki) read this recently and it stopped me in my tracks (pun intended)
The author went on to say that we are either being “formed” by God or by the world. Full stop.
So how does it work exactly? This idea of “spiritual formation” sounds a bit like we are speaking in what Rachel calls “christianese”.
We wanted to simplify it for ourselves. Strip away the confusing, the unnecessary and the burdensome and get to the “essence” of what Walking with Jesus is really all about.
As of last week we are about half way through our first batch of podcasts (we are calling it “season 1” because we are fancy and that sounds official 😂)
As we have been working, something unexpected and fun happened. We ended up with a surprise bonus project that just sort of “formed” out of the work we were doing. Funny how that works. So now we are doubly excited. We have twins! 👯‍♀️
Our hope is that Walk thus Way will be a true ministry.
But really we created Walk thus way because we just decided that we wanted to try something different and wanted some companions along the way.
We are pretty excited about it (have we said that yet? Lol.) and even though we are holding much of it close and private for a bit longer before we reveal it, we would love for you to start praying over whether your heart is responding even just to the idea of a “different way”
You don’t have to wait to get started because remember….
ALL OF LIFE IS SPIRITUAL FORMATION.
Start today by just telling God your desire to learn how to walk with him. That’s it. And then watch and see what he does with that simple prayer.
So very much more to come on all of this in the upcoming months. Get excited guys. This is going to be so good!!

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” - Zechariah 4:10

If you’d had a front row seat to see Niki and I fumble through the first nine months of working on what we call “Walk Thus Way,” you might have laughed at us. We aren’t impressive. We’ve been derailed a lot.

But one thing we’re learning and relearning is that God honors even our feeble , tiny next steps towards Him. The same Savior who took a little boy’s lunch and multiplied it to feed thousands can take the tiny efforts of faith you and I make and miraculously make them beautiful.

“Then Jesus said, ‘What is the Kingdom of God like? How can I illustrate it? It is like a tiny mustard seed that a man planted in a garden; it grows and becomes a tree, and the birds make nests in its branches.’”
- Luke 13:18-19

Yesterday I (Niki) was on a walk when I saw this sweet deer grazing in Watercolor. It caught me off guard to see it in the marsh area. My first thought was “I would have thought it was much too deep to stand there”. And yet the deer seemed not at all unsteady on the uneven terrain. In fact, it seemed at ease.
I desperately want to have that type of natural grace and ease as I walk through life, but if I’m being honest, most of the time I look more like some sort of ridiculously awkward newborn giraffe then a graceful doe. I don’t “human” very well a lot of the time.
Surely there’s got to be a better way to go through life. Right??
There’s this great passage in Matthew that you have probably heard where Jesus is saying if you are weary he will give you rest. I love this passage.
But I really really love it in the message translation. Here it is:
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Oh man doesn’t that sound amazing?! Unforced rhythms of grace.
Yes please 🙋🏻‍♀️
Our hope with Walk Thus Way is that we can explore how to walk with Jesus and discover these “unforced rhythms of grace”.
I’ll be honest, we haven’t completely cracked the code on this. BUT we know who has and he has generously offered us his services as a personal guide to us as we learn this new way to walk.
So that’s exactly what we plan on doing with Walk thus Way. Going on a journey, a trek, an expedition… with Jesus to learn a better way to walk.
We decided that we were going to believe that Jesus wasn’t messing around when he gave the invitation. Full stop.
And if he’s seriously offering, we are seriously accepting…..

Lessons from vacation: you can’t always control your time. Sometimes, you end up in an out-of-state hospital thankful that the baby isn’t born early, then Voxer-brainstorming with your podcast buddy from a hike, feeling grateful the podcast wasn’t released at the date we originally planned, before God gave Niki some really beautiful visions of what this project should be.

Last year, when Niki had the idea for us to create the Walk Thus Way podcast, she repeatedly used the image of childbirth. “I keep feeling like God wants us to birth something with this podcast.”

When I turned up unexpectedly pregnant a couple of months later, we could only laugh.

Good things will be born in time, friends. For those of you waiting on your own good things, know God uses the waiting to develop lungs and perspective, maturity and gratitude.

I’m excited to see all that will be born in good time… but I can certainly wait a couple more months. 😉
