Recently I attended a Colorado Rockies game in Denver with my grandson. As we searched for our seats, I bumped into a friend who keeps in contact with some of my former players. He’s a Christian.

“Did you see the fight?”

“Have you got the coaching itch yet?”

“The Rockies could sure use some pitching.”

I asked about a former player of mine who I’d heard had recently given his life to the Lord. “How’s Ron doing? How’s his walk with the Lord?”

“Hmmm,” he said. “You know, I should know that.” He rubbed his chin and finally shrugged his shoulders. “Mac, I’m embarrassed to say that, but I just don’t know.”

The question clearly made him uncomfortable. It should have been the most natural thing in the world for two Christians to discuss the Lord in normal conversation. We shook hands and went back to our seats. I continually marvel that so many God-fearing Christians are eager to take random conversation anywhere but to Jesus.
