What started as a faith journey of Amor’s founders Gayla and Scott, has turned in to a global ministry with a vision shared by many. Gayla and Scott founded Amor Ministries in 1980 to address the housing needs that were keeping families apart. The first homes were built alongside families in the Tijuana dump who were sending their children to orphanages because they couldn’t provide for them. Thes

e families were desperate to stay together, but resources kept that from being possible. After learning about this, Amor’s Founders decided to do something about it. Today Amor is active in communities throughout Mexico, South Africa, and beyond. Amor Ministries does more than just make life easier for a family in need, we open hearts to truly see the grace and love of Jesus by providing security, safety, and stability. Through the time and energy of our volunteers, Amor has kept over 18,000 families together.

For many years, Amor has been blessed to serve families throughout Baja, Puerto Peñasco, and Ciudad Juarez through our Food Bank Program. In Baja, we purchase food staples and prepare around 90 bags each month, which are given to our local pastors to distribute to families in their communities who need a little extra support.

Over the years, these food bags have helped single mothers, families with young children, and many others facing difficult seasons.

Juquilita shared with us that even though her new Amor home in Tijuana has given their family more space, comfort, and protection from the elements, the house itself was actually not the most valuable gift they received from us.

More importantly, the group that came to build them a home they taught them a big lesson – to love their neighbor, and to give without expecting anything in return ❤

Thank you Iglesia Ancla for building alongside the Habana Zarazúa family last month and putting love into action!

For Martha, a single mom of 2 living in Juárez, it's more than a house ❤

She shared that their old house was made of used lumber and the floor was made of dirt. Now, she and her two sons are protected from the extreme weather in their city, in a safe and well made home.

Martha added, "The temperatures can go up to 100 degrees, or it can even get so cold it snows – so having a safe home truly does change our lives forever."

One of our groups shared that the main reason they partner with Amor and go to Mexico isn't just to build a house for a wonderful family.

For them, building the house "is just icing on the cake — we go to see how God will change our hearts to love His people and love His command to serve. The most impactful part of our trip with Amor is seeing how the group senses God’s presence while serving His people."
