SEED SOWING
"It's time to plant some seeds" Luke 8

It won’t be long before spring planting gets underway. Jesus had some very important things to say about planting seeds. He spoke as many as 40 parables (stories). This one was one of the few that He explained in detail what it meant. We have three elements involved in planting.

The Sower = Us. The Seed = The Word of God. The Soil = The heart of man.

His desire and mandate is for us to GO, SHOW and SOW . He is the one who causes it to GROW.

Reality Check: Many reasons why we don’t want to sow His Word:

Fear of failure, rejection, ridicule, not interested, no desire, no time, the list goes on and on!

Paul lays out three principles in Luke about this planting principle:

We are RESPONSIBLE to sow the Seed.
Luke 8:5 The sower went out to sow the seed. We are the sowers.

We are NOT responsible for the growth of that seed, only the planting of it. The only success comes from God’s Holy Spirit working and nourishing that seed.

They are RESPONSIBLE to receive the Seed. This is a heart issue. The soil mentioned is the hearts of those who hear. Verses 12-15 talks about the different types of hearts (soil). The important issue is that the seed must take ROOT in that soil, many people believe God’s Word but don’t receive it. (Lifestyle). The difference is the one who receives the Word and lives his or her life in accordance with God’s Word and under the power of the Holy Spirit. They PROVE their salvation, not PRODUCE salvation.

God is RESPONSIBLE to handle the harvest. His Holy Spirit is the only one who produces growth of that seed in the heart.(Soil).. Again please understand, we are not responsible for that person’s salvation. It is not the presentation of the Word that saves but the pe*******on of that Word.

Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade for Christ and had one motto:

“ Success in witnessing is simply sharing the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit and leaving the results to God Himself”.

REGENERATION

Throughout the body life of a church there are “seasons” of change.. We are in one now.

The birthing of a new life. Psalm 127.

“ Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it”

Question:
What does God want for His Church?

A gathering of people who have had a life changing experience spiritually and are being effective in carrying out His plan for His Kingdom. Not religious people who label themselves as Christians.

There must be a “Lordship” factor involved in this salvation process. Unfortunately we have churches filled with folks who believe in God but that’s the end of their experience. Jesus say’s there must be more to it than that. I am not only Saviour but Lord as well. Many have received Me as Savior but not Lord. There must be a life changing transformation in each ones life. Not a reformation, remodel, or do-over but a total regeneration. There is a three-fold confirmation as to describing a true follower of Christ.

First, the Word of God confirms it. Secondly, the Holy Spirit witnesses it within that persons spirit.

And Thirdly, there is a changed life. ( Any differences in your lifestyle)?

In John Chapter three, Jesus gives us a Godly description of “Regeneration”.

A very familiar story about a very religious, influential and an up-right member in the highest of the court system. His name is Nicodemus..

Jesus has a conversation with him and answers some very basic questions from Nicodemus about the kingdom of God. This is the longest conversation Jesus had with any one person. ( Must be a very important point) Jesus answered him with a very different statement anyone could imagine.

“ You must be born again” John 3:3 (ESV)

3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”

This statement caused Nicodemus to have many questions about this” Born Again” subject. Jesus said he had to be born from “Above”

To truly know the God of love, grace and mercy one must be born from above. A Spiritual birth.

Three points to ponder about this very important subject: Responsibilities from the listener should be:

PERCEIVE the REALITY of the New Birth. Vs.1 Nicodemus was a very wise and high ranking person in the Jewish class of people, a leader, high in the court system. He knew Jesus as a very wise and powerful teacher. The statements from Jesus shook his very foundation of what he believed about God. This whole new regeneration process also in Titus 3:5. confused his theology. A person becomes a member of God’s family through the “Born Again” event.( 1 Peter 1:23). Jesus is making a point about the difference between a physical birth and a spiritual birth, Physical is temporary and spiritual is eternal. John 3:6- (ESV) 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

BELIEVE the REQUIREMENTS of the new birth. Vs.12. John 3:12- (ESV)

12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

That person now has a “new heart” from God and is expected to act upon this gift with a new understanding of God and displays obedience and action in this new life. It’s now al about what He wants not what we want.

RECEIVE the RESULTS of the new birth. Living like Jesus did. Born once die twice. (Just physical birth) Born twice die once. ( Both physical and spiritual birth). If our church is going to be what God wants it to be there must be people in it who have been born again from above. Vs.16. And are “sold-out” for Him and His plans for His church, not ours.

Truth and Untruth

At first glance some cute little one-liners we hear seem to make a good

point. But we need to be careful to not just accept them and allow them to

guide our thinking and actions without asking, “Is that really true?”.

Most of these tidbits of so-called wisdom are meant to encourage. Some

are used to try and make a point about some life issue or persuade others

to change their beliefs. We need to remember that there is very little real,

lasting help to be found in a catch phrase unless we think it through. And

some sound right but when placed next to the word of God they are just

plain wrong.

Example: I drink tea almost everyday and one of the brands I use likes to

put these little sayings on the paper tag handle of the tea bag. Recently I

read this one; When the past calls let it go to voice mail. It has nothing

to say.

At first I thought it sounded like good advice. But it stuck with me and I

came to the conclusion it is bboth true and untrue.

Truth:

Romams 8:1; There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:17; Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Hebrews 8:12; For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.

As followers of Christ we are set free from our past sins. Our new lives begin the day we receive God’s abundant grace and tender mercies through Jesus. Being made new is a wondrous and mysterious thing for us to comprehend.

In learning to leave the past in the past we have to keep our eyes on Jesus knowing and believing that His work on the cross was more than enough to cover our sins. And the forgiveness we receive is what we can then extend those around us who also have a past. We must allow their past to stay in the past, wiped out by the blood of Jesus, just like our own past.

Now for the untruth of this idea that the past has nothing to say. Actually

it has quite a lot to say and it can be quite valuable.

We all love to recall the positives of our past. I am focused here on why it is

helpful to recall the negatives for a positive purpose. I have sometimes

wished that once I repented and my sins and received forgiveness that God

would somehow just make me forget those things. Satan is very god at

reminding us of our past sins and failures. The memory of our past wrongs

or sins can be a heavy load to carry. But we aren’t meant to carry it.

Jesus took that load and placed it on His own shoulders. But we do still have to deal with our memories somehow so that they do not steal the future victories that God has planned for each of us.

Some of my best life lessons have come from times of failure, pain, poor choices and the consequences.

Here are two things I am reminded of when those memories come to

mind; 1. I never want to go down that road again. 2. Those memories

are a reminder of what God has done in my life.

My past and yours can guide our future choices. We’ve been down those

roads and know where they lead. That is a strong deterrent to repeat any

mistakes we’ve made. And they also are testimonies of God’s grace and

mercy towards us. We have so much to be thankful for! That kind of

undeserved love and forgiveness is overwhelming and life changing. When

those memories that want to pull us down pop up, we need only focus on

Jesus and what He has to say about who we are. What He says is truth regardless of how we feel.

Speak truth to yourself from God’s word to crush the lies. We are loved, forgiven, made new, and have a glorious future ahead.

I’d like to rewrite that tea bag tag to say this;

When Satan calls to condemn you hang up. He has nothing to say.

The Tool Shed

I don’t use a hammer every day, but I have one in my tool shed. I know when I need a hammer that I can confidently go to my tool shed and get a hammer, because I’m confident that one is there. In fact, I have several hammers, some big and some small. So depending on my need at that time I am confident that I have one that is just right for the situation at hand.

I also have screwdrivers. Many different sizes and types for almost every possible need that may arise. Do I use a screw driver every day? No, but again, I’m confident there is one there that I can use when I need it.

My tool shed it quite unique when I think about it. I have many different types of tools gathered from the many different types of problems or tasks I have had along the way. There are ladders, rakes, shovels, extension cords, paint brushes & rollers, clamps, pliers, wrenches, etc.

Sometimes I use a tool that wasn’t even intended for what I’m using it for, but it works. Most of the tools I have to use were given to me or found somewhere along life’s path. I often remember those people or events when I use it. A few I don’t even remember where I got them, but I have them. Some I use quite often, and others seldom. I even have some I have never used, yet, I keep them, just in case I ever need them.

I also know if I don’t have the appropriate tool that is needed at the moment that I can ask a neighbor or friend for help, or I can go to the tool store and rent or purchase one. They have so many tools there, it is astounding. I don’t even know what some are used for, or how you use them, but I know someone else does. There are some that I will never use, or have the need to use in my lifetime, but, many others do or will.

I realize we each have our own, unique Spiritual Tool Shed that is much the same. We have many tools that God has already given us. Additionally, many of us have acquired some that we may have learned from Christian pastors and friends along the way. Some we may use daily, some we may use only as the need arises, and there are even some that we may never use. Yet, we can be confident that they are there and available for us to use when called to do so. When we pray to our Father, the Spirit may remind us of a tool we already have or redirect us to other believers for help because they were given that tool.

We should prepare ourselves to face each day with confidence by, first, putting on the Armor of God
(see Ephesians 6:11, 13-17) and then by strapping on our very own Spiritual Tool Belt filled with all the unique tools the Spirit has provided to each of us individually (1 Corinthians12:1, 14-17).

The more we make every effort to walk each day in the Spirit, we will reap His fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, self-control (Galatians 5:22). We will enjoy a life well prepared and be enabled to take on any task we are asked to do.

Together, by using our Spiritual Tool Sheds, we can and will grow a stronger community of believers.

TRUE AND AUTHENTIC WORSHIP

Romans 12:1-3 (ESV)

1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.

2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

We all have an opinion as to what worship is all about. What does God have to say about it?

Romans chapter 12:1-3 gives us an action plan that God has designed for true worship, Worshiping someone or something is acknowledging the true worth and value of that object or person.. What could possibly be more valuable than God?

NOTHING!!

“It’s giving all that we are to all that God is.”

These verses gives us a road map to follow in doing the God kind of worship the way He wants it to be..

Take the road of total DEDICATION AND SUBMISSION. In order to get the most out of life

we’ve got to give up all of that life. Verses 1&2 tell us what to do and how to do it. A wise author once

said...

”if you are worshiping God on just one day a week. You are just going through the motions of church stuff.”

12:1-2 (ESV)

See the result of a SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION”. Vs.2

“ Come as you are, but don’t leave as you came”. A change must take place and you change from being conformed” (squeezed into the worlds way of thinking and acting). But being transformed with a new set of Godly values and priorities. If the world looks at you and sees a mirror image (it’s own reflection) that is conforming to the world. When the world looks at you and sees a window ( and in that window is Jesus) that is Transformation.

Now you receive the REWARD of a PERSONAL REVELATION. You now know what God

wants and what His will is for your life. You now have inside of you a Holy Spirit connection with the

Almighty. When you do what God wants you to do, He will reveal to you what to do the next time and

when you don’t know what to do the next time He will tell you again!

12:3 (ESV)

3 For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. Moment by moment, day by day. How could you possibly pass up a relationship like that?

WHAT SAY YOU.
THE DECISIONS OF LIFE WE SHOULD MAKE. Based on Matthew 22.

Matthew 22:35-42 (ESV) 35 And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him.

36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?”

37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.

38 This is the great and first commandment.

39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

A New Year brings about a new RESOLUTION. Let’s make Jesus our SOLUTION to that Re-solution.

The decisions we make not only affect & impact us but the lives of those around us as well.

Our life’s journey has many twists and turns and we are constantly challenged to make choices daily.

When it comes to our spiritual life we must make some real eternal and life-changing decisions.

Jesus talks about this in Matthew.22. He responds to a religious leader’s question with some real answers.

vs 36:

Our decision to make:

What LORD am I going to LOVE? We all are worshiping someone or something. There are ton’s of

idols out there. Do we serve the law of the land or God’s commandment from Heaven. The religious leaders asked Jesus which one is the greatest? He answered.vs.37-39.

We are to LOVE the LORD WHOLEHEARTEDLY . It starts in our hearts which is the control center for all other aspects of our lives i.e. feelings/emotions, decisions etc. This is not a feeling issue but a commitment one. You cannot command a feeling. Mark 12:30-31 (ESV) 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’

We are to LOVE OTHERS SELFLESSLY. This is impossible you say,, Yes it is. We need the full

presence of God’s Holy Spirit in our lives so we can carry out this command effectively.

We need a “Heart Transplant” (Spiritually)

31 The second is this: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these."

Note: The vertical comes first. Up to God and then the horizontal comes later. Sideways to all others.

We should think of how very much we do love ourselves, of how much of our activity centers around

the care, comfort and entertainment of self. Then we should try to imagine what it would be like if we

showered that same love on our neighbors. Then we should do it! As mentioned earlier such behavior is not natural, it is supernatural. Only those who have been born again can do it, and then only by allowing the Holy Spirit of God to do it through them.

How about it! Let’s start this year with the right choice (decision). Make Jesus number ONE!!

A CHRISTMAS WISH LIST
Part Two

“All I Want for Christmas”

God’s gift of Redeeming Faith, Part One to His gift of:

“ A Reassuring Hope”

In the first devotion we received the gift of Salvation through Redeeming Faith. The Lord has given us a second gift with this Reassuring Hope.

We are living in a culture is which hoping for something has become a popular past-time. Our country has faded away from being secure and Christian to a fractured and broken pagan society.

All that’s left is hope. However, some have lost this hope and are living in a hopeless state of mind. They have put their faith and hope in the wrong people and places and have come up empty.. In the book of Titus chapter two in the New Testament, he gives us three avenues to travel on to have true and godly hope where certainty and security can be found when it comes from the right place.

1. Put your Hope in the SAVING GRACE OF JESUS. He never fails. Vs.11 Titus 2:11-(ESV)
11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,
God’s grace came upon the scene when Jesus was born, He appeared!! On the cross was the time when Jesus paid for all our sins. That’s Grace!! It is free but it was not cheap, it cost Jesus much pain, agony and suffering.

Titus 2:14 (ESV)
14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

2. Put your Hope in the SANCTIFYING POWER OF JESUS. Because of your salvation, you have the power to say NO to the wrong and say YES to the right. That’s grace power in you. It takes hold of your heart and does a supernatural work in you. It is not what you say, but what you show. Godly living should become a new way of life.

Titus 2:12- (ESV)
12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,

3. Put your Hope in the SECOND COMING OF JESUS. We don’t hope for the past, it’s gone. Not in the present it is here, but we Hope in the future with expectation and anticipation.

Titus 2:13.Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, This is not a maybe but a sure event in history. We should live with anticipation and determination to wait in the power of His Holy Spirit.

God gave us the gift of Grace through the birth of Jesus (His 1st appearance) and then the gift of Glory when everything will be made right. (His 2nd appearance).

The world say’s “ Hope for the best” We say “ Jesus is the Best Hope” He is not just the Best Hope but the Only Hope for mankind.

A CHRISTMAS WISH LIST

“All I want for Christmas”

This Christmas there will be a multitude of wishes for gifts wanted. Let’s look at one of the most important gifts we can receive from our God. The apostle Paul lines out some points to ponder in Romans 10..

Three items regarding our faith should be considered and thought about..

A Redeeming Faith : CONFIRMS OUR SALVATION. Vs. 11-13.

Romans 10:11-13 (ESV) 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”No difference between anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord. Note:

This promise is specific in it’s Lord and it’s Call. He’s the only one and our call is the only way..

A Redeeming Faith: COMPELS OUR WITNESS. Vs. 14-15. We have a responsibility as followers of Christ. Romans 10:14-15 (ESV) 14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” Believe is with the mind. Call is with the Heart. The Lord you must believe in is the same Lord you must call on. A real saving faith leads to a real sharing faith.

A Redeeming Faith: COMMANDS OUR LOYALTY. Vs.16.

Romans 10:16- (ESV)

16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?”

Many have not heard because many have not shared. The only way faith can become real is stated in Scripture.

17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. Sharing the Good News should become a lifestyle event. We should live by what we truly believe in as followers of Jesus. Once we have experienced and tasted the wonderful fruit of the Holy Spirit, how could we not want to share it with others.

Week 3 Advent:
PEACE

John 14:27 (ESV)

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Are you at peace with the direction of your life! Or are you still rushing after the illusion of peace and happiness that our world promises but cannot deliver?

The answer to this simple question will determine to a surprising extent, the direction and the quality of your day and your life as well. It was once said,” We need to be at peace with our past, content with our present, and sure about our future, knowing that they are all in God’s hands”.

As you know we are living in a chaotic and very unsettling world. Trouble everywhere!!

Everywhere you look there’s strife, disruption, tragedy and hopelessness, bringing about the emotions of fear, anxiety, uncertainty about your life. ( Don’t get caught in this trap of the enemy). Let Christ take away all the lies that Satan is telling you. ( God’s got you)!!

Today as a gift to yourself, to your family, and to your friends, claim and receive the inner peace that is your spiritual birthright as a believer. It is offered freely, it is yours for the asking,

So Ask!!

And in faith believe you have received it and enjoy God’s wonderful gift of PEACE.

Week 2 Advent:
A Sure and Steadfast Hope

Next Sunday is week two of Advent. We now consider the hope we have in the gift of Christ.

The hope we celebrate during the Christmas Advent season (and all year long) is not like the hope that is based on circumstances that may change at any moment. Hope for a follower of Christ is much much more. Consider Hebrews chapter 6:17-20. From the amplified version.

17) Accordingly God also, in His desire to show more convincingly and beyond doubt to those who were to inherit the promise the unchangeableness of His purpose and plan intervened (mediated) with an oath.

18)This is so that, by two unchangeable things (His promise and His oath) in which it is impossible for God to ever prove false or to deceive us, we who have fled to Him for refuge might have mighty indwelling strength and strong encouragement to grasp and hold fast the hope appointed for us and set before us,

19) Now we have this hope as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul (it cannot slip and it cannot break down under whoever steps out on it-a hope) that reaches farther and enters into the very
certainty of the Presence within the veil,

20) Where Jesus has entered in for us in advance, a forerunner having become a High Priest forever... The word advent means arrival. This season celebrates the arrival of our savior born a babe who would bring the hope of salvation to a sinful world.

But our celebration includes the anticipation of His second glorious coming!

Our sure and steadfast hope is firmly fixed on the God who cannot lie, a God whose name is Love, a God who keeps His promises. An
unchangeable God. Romans 15:13; May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Good morning/evening church. Starting this week we will have encouragements based on the coming weeks advent candle themes. This week the candle theme will be love. May this encouragement prepare our hearts for the 1st week of advent.

ADVENT: THE SEASON OF CELEBRATION.

ACCEPTING GOD’S LOVE

7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.
8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.
10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.
I John 4:7-12

Because God’s power is limitless, it is far beyond the comprehension of mortal minds. But even though we cannot fully understand the heart of God, we can be open to God’s love.

God’s ability to love, is not burdened by temporal boundaries or by earthly limitations. The love that flows from the heart of God is infinite and today presents yet another opportunity to celebrate that love.

You are a glorious creation, a unique individual, a beautiful example of God’s handiwork. God’s love for you is limitless. Accept that love, acknowledge it, and be grateful.

The life of faith is a daily exploration of the constant and countless ways in which God’s grace and love are experienced.

Accept it, experience it, share it, celebrate it and live a life of thanksgiving to God for His marvelous gift of love. A love that cost a great deal from God the Father.

SEASONS

The summer heat and now the cooling of fall have taken the garden to it’s next phase. Vegetables have been pulled up and are composting. Trees and shrubs are beginning to get their pruning for the winter. Some things die and are pulled up. Other things are thriving in the cooler weather. Some things appear to be dead but actually they are very much alive and simply going through the natural course of their life cycle with the changing seasons.

Like the garden, life for us is always in a state of change. Transitioning from each season to the next. We are born, then the childhood years, schooling, jobs, maybe marriage and family, the middle years, hopefully retirement and finally the older years. In any or even all of these seasons of life we may have times when we feel like those plants that outwardly appear dead. Maybe we feel alone, unsure of ourselves, or something happens and we are suddenly not able to do what we used to. For some it might just be trying to figure out what life is all about or if our life has any meaning. And often we compare ourselves to others and find ourselves lacking somewhere and judge ourselves too harshly.

In the plant world a lot is going on while a plant appears to be “dead”. Their roots are soaking up nutrients and energy needed for the new growth that will indeed come. Even bulbs that are completely invisible to the eye during their dormant season are hard at work storing up all they need to burst forth in a showy display. Do you ever feel invisible? Spring is coming…

During our dark or dormant seasons when we feel we aren’t producing anything valuable, we can be sure that God is at work. He is with us and in us during these times. These are the days we should embrace this season of quiet and send our spiritual roots deeper into His nourishing word. It is the time to soak up His refreshing and energizing presence through worship and communion in prayer. It is these times we should rest in Him and feed our faith trusting that spring is coming. God sees you. He is at work in you. You are immeasurably valuable to Him. You are an important part of the body of Christ.
