The mission of Cultivating Hearts of Tomorrow is to help those in need, like what Jesus taught (Mat 25:31-36). There are 422,000 children in the foster care system in the United States. What is not often discussed is the state of those who “age out” or are dismissed from child care.
This year in Texas 1200 children are to age out of the foster system. Most of these children aren’t ready for life, of those that age out, 63% do not have any connections or caring adults to help them, 68% will end up unemployed, 46% end up homeless and of those 46%, 60% of the young ladies will end up pregnant in the first year of aging out. Most of the children of those who were in foster care, will also end up in foster care. There are many small things we don’t consider when thinking about those who age out. Most do not have a driver’s license, many do not have birth certificates and much of the documentation they might need.
Both their physical and spiritual conditions are often a serious concern. In the children homes that are affiliated with the Lord’s church, among those who are baptized, very few will remain faithful after they have left the home. James teaches us to care for the orphans – those without parents (Jam 1:27). We would like to submit for your consideration, that this is exactly the job of the church. Jesus said that His followers are to be lights to the world (Mat 5:14) and this is one way we can be lights.
Our mission is to go to those who have left the foster system and children homes and help establish them as independent, responsible, God-fearing adults. Our goal is to support these young adults both spiritually and physically, so that they can see the love of God and most importantly to glorify God.
