One of the fun things we’ve been able to do as a church family has been hosting Story Shares on people’s driveways. A Story Share is an opportunity for people to gather for a potluck meal, build relationships with others in the church family, and share the ways we’ve seen God at work in our lives or the lives of the people around us lately.
At one of the last Story Shares, we were gathered on the Olsen Family’s driveway with about 50 other people from Lazarus (photo). It was incredible to see! I loved getting to see everyone who participated, and at some point we realized that it was difficult for the folks sitting at one end of the driveway to hear the people who were sharing on the other side.
As God fulfills the mission of connecting more people to Himself and to a church family like Lazarus, we should expect some growing pains. We should expect some short-pants moments.
Here’s what we plan to do about it:
First, we’re going to try a Story Share potluck after worship on September 27th (RSVP sign-up at www.lazaruschurch.com ). At this gathering, table groups will share the stories of the ways they’ve seen God at work lately, and nominate a few stories to be shared with the whole church as the lunch wraps-up.
Second, we’re going to lean into the means of connecting deeper with other Christians. I love Sunday mornings! Worshiping together and receiving the Lord’s Supper are amazing gifts! And experience has probably taught you that it’s tough to really get to know other people in the church if a brief conversation over donuts after worship is the only time you get to chat with somebody.
Now, I’m not saying you have to be in a Discipleship Group, but I am saying that if you’re not in a group, you’re missing out on an incredible opportunity! As Lazarus grows, Discipleship Groups, prayer groups, or participating in the weekly Circle Time devotion (9:30am at Lazarus before worship) are some of the best ways to stay connected to the church family outside of worship. God is doing incredible work through His people at Lazarus! Let’s celebrate it, and continue to foster the connections with which He’s blessed us!
