God doesn't think like we do. What's cool to us is totally uncool to Him! Examples? Things like the endless pursuit of comfort and pleasure and mindless frivolity and owning nice things and being popular! God isn't impressed in the least by any of that.

Just a little window onto what a serious and humble servant of the Lord accepts. RUNNING from shame and suffering? On the contrary, EMBRACING it and REJOICING in it! Oh how we've fallen!

March 30 (as well as the 4th Sunday in Great Lent, also today) is the feast of St. John Climacus, whose "Ladder of Divine Ascent" has been guiding Eastern monastics in the way of perfection up its 30 rungs since the 7th century.🪜

St. John Climacus’ most famous work is a book entitled “The Ladder of Divine Ascent.” The message of the Ladder is shown on this icon. Monks are shown climbing a ladder. At the top is Jesus, prepared to receive them into Heaven. Demons are depicted dragging down the climbers, no matter how high up the ladder they may be.
