Utah Interfaith Power & Light

Utah Interfaith Power & Light Utah Interfaith Power & Light inspires, educates and collaborates with faith communities to promote earth stewardship, clean energy and climate justice.

We seek to be faithful stewards of Creation by responding to global climate change through the promotion of energy conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy. This united interfaith outreach intends to protect the Earth's ecosystems, safeguard public health and ensure sufficient, sustainable energy for all. Interfaith Power & Light is an initiative of The Regeneration Project, founded by

the Rev. Sally Bingham in 1998. The movement works to deepen the connection between ecology and faith by mobilizing a national network of congregations seeking to make climate change a moral issue rather than simply a political issue. Chapters in thirty-eight states now respond to this major challenge of our time by teaching stewardship, implementing energy efficiency, practicing conservation, and investing in renewable energy. Utah Interfaith Power & Light:
– Conducts energy audits of congregational buildings.
– Provides speakers, films, and education to member congregations.
– Stages public events and workshops to heighten awareness of our mission.
– Advises on implementation and purchase of energy efficient products (and offers a discount on Energy Star appliances).
– Advocates at local, state, and federal levels for responsible energy and climate policy and legislation.
– Works in tandem with other regional and national partner organizations. We want your voice to enrich our dialogue and be engaged in bettering our stewardship of our earth!

It's not just laziness or foolishness - there's a reason people have a hard time engaging with the problem of climate change. Understanding that better can help us move forward.

The biggest problem for the climate change fight isn’t technology – it’s human psychology. This is the first episode of Climate Lab, a six-part series produc...

"Using that setting -- typically a button that shows a car with an arrow inside -- can cut pollution concentrations inside a typical car to 20% of on-road levels, scientists found."

Consider this next time you’re sitting in traffic on the freeway: You’re in a zone where air pollution can be five to 10 times higher than in surrounding areas. Even inside your vehicle,...

"Air pollution has been classified as a 'Class I carcinogen' by the World Health Organization."

Air pollution has been classified as a “Class I carcinogen” by the World Health Organization. There has been a steady increase in the incidence of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) over the past several decades, and other research implicates air pollution as a trigger for leukemia. This study showed t...

"Since we didn't obtain the standard by 2015 the EPA is required to bump us up or reclassify us as a serious non-attainment area and they're requiring the state to submit a new plan."

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Utah) - It's that time of year, the winter inversion season, when the bad air created by our homes, cars and industry gets trapped in the valleys. It looks okay out there now, but the Environmental Protection Agency says Utah has a serious issue with air pollution. The EPA is no...

"Smoke may smell good, but it's not good for you. Both short- and long-term exposures to particle pollution from wood smoke have been linked to a variety of health effects."

CO is odorless and colorless. If you use a wood stove or fireplace, install a digital CO detector, which sounds an alarm when CO levels increase. Protect Your Family and Yourself from Carbon Monoxide Poisoning.

They are protecting forests from illegal logging and poaching, promoting sustainable livelihoods, and reforesting degraded lands."

"The report leaves no room for argument: we simply cannot afford a world without regulations on the harmful pollution that the Clean Air Act is designed to fight."

The net benefits outweigh the cost of implementation.

"I don’t accept global warming on faith: I crunch the data, I analyze the models, I help engineers and city managers and ecologists quantify the impacts. The data tells us the planet is warming; the science is clear that humans are responsible; the impacts we’re seeing today are already serious; and our future is in our hands."

As other wise scientists have said, “We basically have three choices: reduce our emissions, prepare for a changing climate, and suffer. We’re going to do some of each. The question is what the mix is going to be. The more mitigation we do, the less adaptation will be required, and the less suffering there will be.”
