Tonight's loss was tough due to some terrible calls and an inadvertent assist from the referee, but hey, at least we copped this slider collab between chefs Brian and Nikki Podgorski () and Ernest Luis Salas Robledo (). Bringing their culinary backgrounds together beautifully, it included a beef patty topped with hot honey, pickled jalapeño and American cheese, and slick nods to meatloaf and sisig. The latter won our hearts with thick cut bacon, ginger mayo, and a balancing act between the "Filipino holy trinity" (garlic, tomato and onion).

All three were a welcome respite from familiar stadium fare, however — the latest example of a peerless Guest Chef program that has also welcomed , , , and to this season. Look out for future 👨‍🍳 cameos at its Section 30 stand, or wander around the stadium for other local favs like , , , , , and .

Here’s our haul, including a couple instant classics from , a dusty Philip K. Dick fav from Uncle Hugo's, a new cookbook from , and a trio of recommended titles (metaphysical manga, an epic graphic novel, and a beginner’s guide to mushrooms) from . (The St. Paul shop was our favorite local find — one we'll be returning to regularly moving forward.)

If you didn't join today's hordes of jubilant readers, you can still pick up a free passport of participating business partners on Sunday and get it stamped for a future discount before the weekend's over.

If you DID make it out, where did you go and what did you get?

If you're serious about sashimi, 🏃‍♂️ don't 🚶‍♂️ to this weekend. Today and tomorrow only, chef is offering a beautiful chirashi-style bowl of Tokyo-caliber bluefin tuna, buttery salmon belly, cured salmon roe, and imported Hokkaido rice that reflects the seven years he spent cooking under the close watch of at .

With restaurant prices on the rise, and decent service on the decline, we couldn't be happier about the arrival of another casual spot with friendly workers and high-caliber food. (Another recent example being Linden Hills' perpetually packed .)

Between its rarely seen bowls of restorative udon noodles (one immediate standout features "mountain foraged" vegetables), elegantly prepared lacquer boxes of grilled eel, and exclusive pastries, we will be back sooner rather than later for sure!

If you’re looking for a break from all the negativity and noise of the past week, we can’t think of a better place than Grand Marais during the Gales of November. While stellar food spots like , North Superior Fishery and are closed for the season, you can still find smoked fish chowder and freshly caught fried herring at , nicely balanced NA bevs at the newly opened , impeccably curated gift ideas at , and an absolutely killer ham and Gruyère croissant at .

But most importantly, you can find peace, whether it’s through hiking at uninhabited state parks or setting 90 minutes aside for a private hot-and-cold session at . One that’s complete with a quick dip in Lake Superior that may or may not alarm whoever’s staying st the Best Western next door.

Here’s a highly recommended brunch option if you’re looking to enjoy the lovely weather in Stillwater this weekend: a peak season B.E.S.T. (bacon, fried egg, spinach, tomato and herb aioli on thick slabs of sourdough bread) from paired with a short pint and 😎 views of the St. Croix River.

Our advice: hit the road nice and early, bring a bike, ride the 6 mile out-and-back Brown's Creek State Trail before it gets TOO hot, and reward yourself with a laid-back a setup like this afterwards.

What’s everyone else doing on yet another unseasonably warm fall weekend?

With out of town until Thanksgiving (she's taking our toddler on an intercontinental work trip!), went a little wild at this morning.

Some highlights from this haul: Turkish eggplants, hot banana peppers, five pounds of first-wave apples, a couple baskets of last-call tomatoes, freshly cut flowers and garlic, and a bottle of 's very best sheep's milk.

The prideful, Nerstrand-based farm is apparently one of just three producers in the country. According to co-owner Steven Read, there's nothing quite like it, and love-or-loathe goat's milk pales in comparison. Anyone else have an opinion on the great 🐐 x 🐑 debate?

While searching for a kid-friendly dinner solution this evening, we remembered that recently launched a food truck () at Fridley's own that brings the blog to life better than any cookbook.

As promised in a recent interview, chief recipe developer has struck an "indulgent but balanced" sweet spot rarely seen on the craft brewery circuit. We sampled a wild rice brat served with cream ale-braised onions and well-seasoned sweet potato fries, and a signature bowl split between fluffy hummus, salt-kissed quinoa, and a massaged kale salad that'll remind you why it got people to eat their greens again not that long ago.

Hodgepodge actually reminds us of one stand we make sure to hit at the every year: the fresh-not-just-fried affair that's run by the .

All the more so since it also stars a soft-serve machine that pumps out pure vanilla ice cream on par with the Dairy Building's milked-out masterpieces and the border crossing beauts at .

We've yet to find custard as good as — sorry Minnesota, but it's true — Milwaukee's several gold standards here in Minneapolis, St. Paul or the greater metro area, but we'd happily swing back to Forgotten Star for a slightly less indulgent🍦 and one of the brewery's award-winning ales.

Welcome to summer everyone! ☀️ 😎 💛

Let this be your 🚨 last call 🚨 on the Skagen Salad at , a light and lovely riff on one of Sweden's most iconic sandwiches by the bar's new pop-up kitchen . Helmed by former chefs Axel Pineda () and Sydney Reuter, and named after poached and broiled Scandinavian cod (why not right?), it's fine dining without the fuss washed down with one of Minneapolis' most discerning natural wine lists.

Swing by soon for togarashi-dusted, Cajun-fried smelt with a wondrous swoosh of lemon dill crème fraiche, dynamic potato dumplings, or an imminent spring menu refresh that’ll lose this sorely underrated salad but gain a peach-burrata combo and a slab of crackly pork schnitzel.

Consider this killer basket of catfish pontchartrain, collard greens and dirty rice your gentle reminder that Sea Salt Eatery (a) makes a mean Cajun-style, NOLA-caliber special, and (b) closes for the season on Sunday, October 8.

In other words, you’ve got about a week to get your fish taco fix across from Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis!
