Church, you are the pillar and the ground at the truth, and that truth needs to be preached boldly, unapologetically, and without compromise. But how we carry the truth matters. Let’s strive to be those who are courageous as well as wise and filled with grace and truth.

Sometimes we can get the impression that we are calling the shots and controlling our future. But God has not called us to control, but to surrender and every day obedience.

It’s been said that the tongue is the only member of the body designed with its own cage for a reason. James spends a good amount of ink connecting the way we use our tongues to the authenticity of our faith.

We’ve all been stung by the tongue, and we’ve all used ours to sting others. The question is whether we are willing to bring our words into submission to the Lord and allow Him to use them for good.

Striving to earn what you could never earn will only leave you exhausted. Responding to a gift you never deserved brings joy, freedom, and life.

James will not allow us to believe that our works can earn salvation, but neither will he allow us to use grace as an excuse for a dead and fruitless faith.

Faith without works is dead. But Jesus gives us a living faith, a faith that bears fruit as we respond to the greatness of His grace.

As I’ve studied and taught Scripture over the years, the book of James has continually challenged me to examine not only what I claim to believe, but how that faith is actually lived out. James calls us to a faith that is active, visible, and demonstrated through a life of genuine allegiance to Christ.
