Great Endurance

…being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience.
Colossians 1:11, NIV

When you look at the life of David, he had many mountaintop moments that we celebrate—his anointing to be the next king of Israel, defeating Goliath, becoming a national hero, conquering enemy armies. These were moments when God suddenly promoted, blessed, favored. But most of David’s life was spent in the valleys where it didn’t look like God was doing anything, times that were lonely, unfair, uncomfortable. If it wasn’t for the grace of God strengthening David with all power, he would not have had the great endurance and patience it took for him to reach the throne.

It’s easy to get discouraged when things aren’t changing as fast as we would like. We know God has put promises in our heart, then opposition shows up with a flood of trouble, heartbreak, and anxiety. Know that in that moment God is going to strengthen you with supernatural power to have great endurance. What should discourage and defeat you will give way to fresh passion and vision that will propel you into your purpose.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that Your power is at work to strengthen me in order that I can have great endurance and accomplish great things. Thank You that I can put the discouragements of the valley behind me and stir up my faith. I believe that You are pushing me forward into my purpose. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Eviction Notices

So prepare your minds for action and exercise self-control. Put all your hope in the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. 1 Peter 1:13, NLT

Imagine that your mind is a four-bedroom house, with occupants in each bedroom. One bedroom has fear living in it. It moved in during that difficult season when so much went wrong. Another room has guilt that’s been staying there since you made that mistake. Another room has doubt living there. Now you’re so down on yourself. Inferiority settled in the last room when you were a child, when people made you feel less-than and said you would never do anything significant. What would happen if you evicted those wrong tenants? How much higher could you go if you evicted the thoughts telling you that you’ll never get well, never break the addiction, never see your family restored? Those are lies that have no right to stay. How much more will you accomplish if you evict the thoughts of unworthiness, thinking you don’t deserve to be blessed? What could you become if you evict the not-qualified thoughts, the not-talented-enough thoughts?

Your mind is valuable real estate. Get those thoughts out and replace them with what God says about you.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that I can let the message of Jesus and what You say about me fill all the rooms of my life. Thank You that all the negative thoughts that have held me back are evicted by the truths in Your Word. I declare to every fear and doubt that there is no vacancy. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Joyful Prayers

Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18, NLT

When you’re facing unfair situations and nothing is changing, it’s easy to turn what should be joyful prayers into complaining sessions. Rather than giving thanks to God for our circumstances, we air out all our worries and tell God everything that’s wrong and how bad life is. “God, I can’t take this pressure at work. You have to heal my son before he drives me crazy. This setback took all my savings. God, do something.” Yes, God is concerned about what concerns you, but complaining doesn’t get His attention. Take a different perspective and say, “God, all these things seem to be working against me, but thank You that You’re fighting my battles. Thank You that You hold victory in store for the upright. Thank You that I have joy that no one can take from me.” That not only helps you to stay stronger, builds your faith, keeps you encouraged; that’s what allows the Most High God to go to work. When you’re always joyful, thanking God, talking about how great He is, you’re going to see His favor in amazing ways.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that I can be thankful in all circumstances today because You are bigger than any of my circumstances. Thank You that I can walk in Your will and be filled with joy. I declare that I believe You are fighting my battles and will bring me through to victory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Signs Will Follow

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” John 14:12, ESV

We’re coming into a time when God is going to show out in greater ways. There are going to be greater works done. The Scripture says, “These signs will follow them that believe.” There are going to be some signs following you—not ordinary things, not what you’ve seen in the past, not what you can do through your natural ability, but awe-inspiring deeds. God will put you in situations where you’re up against what looks impossible. The sickness will be too much, the problem too great, the dream too big. It’s easy to let fear, intimidation, and doubt talk you out of it. This is when you have to remind yourself that you were created to perform greater works.

The apostle Paul says, “You haven’t seen, heard, or imagined what God has in store for you.” Get ready. It’s coming. You have God’s favor and anointing upon you, and you are marked for greatness. He is moved by your faith, and He is going to show out in your life in unusual, uncommon ways. God is about to do something you’ve never seen.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You for the greater works that You have planned to do through me. Thank You that You created me to activate my faith and believe that I can make a difference in the world in greater ways than I’ve imagined. I declare that I refuse to let fear and unbelief hold me back. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Banish the Negatives

Banish bitterness, rage and anger, shouting and slander, and any and all malicious thoughts—these are poison. Ephesians 4:31, VOICE

With so many social media platforms today, people can express their negative opinions about you so easily and say things that are derogatory, disrespectful, rude, and fault-finding. The only power that has is the power you give it. If you let what flows from their jealousy, bitterness, or anger get in you, if you dwell on it, that will poison your spirit. Over time it will change who you are. You’ll become defensive and waste your time trying to prove to people that you’re okay, that you’re not what they said. That’s giving them your power. Don’t pay attention to what they’re saying. Quit reading the negative comments. Don’t get drawn into a battle that you’re not supposed to be in. Don’t let their gossip, jealousy, or criticism get in your spirit and steal your joy. Don’t give it the time of day; ignore it and move forward. Keep doing the right thing, and God will deal with the detractors. Stay focused on your goals, your dreams, and fulfilling the destiny God has given you.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that You are my vindicator and that You will protect my reputation as I keep on honoring You and doing what is right. Help me to banish any negative chatter that is expressed against me and to not read it or listen to it. I believe that You will handle it Your way. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

The Power of God

Your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. 1 Corinthians 2:5, NKJV

The Israelites were excited to go into the Promised Land until they heard the negative report that there were giants and fortified cities to overcome. Before you see dreams come to pass, before you see healing, promotion, and restoration, don’t be surprised if you face obstacles, disappointments, and setbacks that look too big. Are you going to get discouraged and settle where you are as the Israelites did, or will you have faith in the power of God? What you face may be more powerful than you, but it’s not more powerful than our God. He’s in control. This is not the time to start complaining, give up, and turn around. This is the time to show God what you’re made of. In the face of the medical or financial report that hasn’t improve, dare to say, “I still believe in the power of God.” Whatever form the giant takes, you have to say as the apostle Paul, “None of these things move me.” You do your part, and God will bring the giants down. He’ll take care of what’s trying to stop you.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that You are here with me, and that You are with me in all the circumstances of my life. Teach me what it means to base my faith on Your power. I give You thanks for how great You are and declare that none of these negative things will move me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

I Am What God Says I Am

You realize, don’t you, that you are the temple of God, and God himself is present in you? 1 Corinthians 3:16, MSG

We start every service at Lakewood saying, “I am what God says I am.” I may feel weak, but God says I’m strong, so my report is, “I am strong.” When you say that, strength starts heading your way. When you’re dealing with an illness, anxiety, or depression, it’s easy to wear the labels “sick,” “depressed,” “anxious,” “defeated.” “That’s just who I am.” No, that’s not who you are. That’s what you’re dealing with. You’re not a sick person trying to get well. You’re a well person fighting off sickness. Don’t let the difficulty become your identity. Don’t get in agreement with the negative. Go back to what your Creator says. God says He’s restoring health to you. He says you’ll run and not be weary. He says weeping endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Say about yourself, “I am a temple of God. I’m healthy, whole, energetic, free, happy, and victorious.” If you start saying what God says about you instead of what you feel, you’ll see things begin to turn around. Don’t go through life wearing negative labels.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that You didn’t create me to live weighed down by the worry, hurts, guilt, and frustrations that creep in and limit my life. Help me to clear out all the clutter of negative thoughts and labels from my mind and dwell on what You have to say about me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Blessed Indeed

“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.” Numbers 6:24–25, NIV

Start today with God’s blessing on you, with His face shining upon you. You were created in His image. He didn’t make any mistakes. You didn’t get shortchanged. He knew every weakness you would have. He knew the areas you would struggle in. So quit beating yourself up, living unworthy, letting condemnation hold you back. Receive His grace and mercy and move forward with boldness and faith.

With God’s blessing, you have to start blessing yourself. When you’re tempted to say something negative, turn it around. Instead of “I’m not attractive,” say “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Instead of “I’ve made too many mistakes,” say “I am forgiven, redeemed, and restored.” Instead of “I’ll never be successful,” say “I’m surrounded by favor.” You have a destiny to fulfill. There’s a calling on your life, an assignment that only you can accomplish. The people in your life need your gifts, your talent, your smile, your love. This world won’t be as bright a place as it should be without you shining, living the blessed, abundant life that you were created to live.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You for the promises You have spoken that I can use to invoke blessings upon myself. Thank You that I can speak words of faith that agree with what You say about me and give them the right to come to pass. I will use the words I speak over my life to bless myself. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Keep the Door Closed

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?
1 Corinthians 6:19, NIV

We all face difficulties. Sickness, opposition, and betrayals may come, but they don’t have to stay. When they knock, you don’t have to answer the door. Don’t open it up and say, “I knew you’d show up. Come on in. Let me get you a cup of coffee.” No, you can say, “No, thanks. You’re not welcome here.” Don’t accept it. Don’t learn to live with it. Quit calling it “my sickness,” “my anxiety,” “my dysfunction,” “my addiction.” None of that is yours. None of it belongs to you. It’s on foreign territory. Your body is a temple of the Most High God. Sickness doesn’t belong in your temple. Depression doesn’t belong in your temple. Fear, addiction, and lack don’t belong there. Stand firm and keep that door closed. Yes, negative things may come. I’m not asking you to act as though they are not real. But you don’t have to accept them in your mind. Don’t let whatever it is become permanent, thinking it’s always going to be that way. See it as temporary. This too shall pass.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that I belong to You, that I am a temple of the Most High God. Thank You that I can keep the door of my life shut to all the negatives that want to attach to me as though they belong to me. I am casting any anxiety and sickness away and calling on You for deliverance. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Beneficial Words

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29, NIV

Whether it’s your family members or any of the other people in your life, they’re going to make mistakes, say things they shouldn’t, or may do things that are wrong and bring embarrassment. It’s tempting to gossip or talk disparagingly about them. But God wants you to protect their reputation. There may be things said or done behind closed doors, but outside you need to be their biggest cheerleader. Don’t call your friends and tell all the negative things about your brother or coworker. Don’t tell others what you know is going to make someone look bad. While they may not deserve it, you need to honor your family members and others in front of other people. You may have a private disagreement, but don’t let it go public.

It’s always good to ask yourself: Will what I’m about to say benefit others? Is it going to build them up, make them look better? Or is it going to tear them down, give them less credibility, or poison their reputation? Protect those whom God has given you by speaking beneficial words.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that You have given me the gift of speaking words that are wholesome and beneficial. Help me pay attention to what I’m actually saying to others. I commit myself to taming my tongue and using my words to bring encouragement and build others up. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
