Change Your Thinking

Then said I, Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am only a youth. But the Lord said to me, Say not, I am only a youth. ... Be not afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord.
Jeremiah 1:6–8, AMPC

After God told Jeremiah he was going to become a great prophet, the first thing Jeremiah said was, “God, I don’t know how to speak. I’m too young.” He started looking at his shortcomings. As long as he focused on that, he was stuck. God’s response was that Jeremiah should zip that up. He was saying, “Jeremiah, I don’t ask anyone to do something and then not give them what they need to do it. I’ve approved you and anointed you.” Jeremiah had to change his thinking from “I’m limited. I’m insecure. I have these weaknesses” to “I’m a child of the Most High God. He’s approved me, so I’m going to approve myself and be what He says I am.” He quit being down on himself, focusing on his faults, and became a great prophet to the nations.

What could you become if you quit focusing on all the things you don’t like about yourself and start approving yourself? Put on God’s approval even as He is in the process of making you into what He wants you to be.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that You have given me everything I need to fulfill my purpose just as You did for Jeremiah. Thank You that I am enough because You made me just as I am, and I have Your approval. I declare that I will focus upon what You say about me and not fear what others think about me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Suddenly

Then the men of Judah came to Hebron, and there they anointed David king over the tribe of Judah. 2 Samuel 2:4, NIV

As a teenager, David was anointed by the prophet Samuel to be the next king of Israel, but he wasn’t made the king of Judah until he was thirty years old. In between, he spent years in the shepherds’ fields, then serving King Saul, then living and being pursued in the wilderness when Saul was trying to kill him. Saul was strong and healthy and had loyal followers. It looked as though David would be stuck for decades more. But just three days after David suffered his greatest attack from another enemy and hit his lowest point of discouragement, Saul was killed in battle, and the men of Judah made him their king. When every circumstance was coming against David, God suddenly thrust him forward into his destiny.

When you feel stuck and nothing’s changing, follow David’s example. Keep being faithful, don’t get bitter, keep excelling right where you are. Don’t let negative circumstances fool you. God knows how to accelerate your destiny. You could be just three days from seeing your greatest victory. God is going to get you to where He’s anointed you to be.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that You are always working in my life to shape my character and prepare me for the next level You have for me. Thank You for the seasons of testing where You prove my faithfulness. I believe You are taking me higher to be used for Your glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Initiate the Miracle

“Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.”
Luke 8:45, NIV

In the midst of a big crowd, one woman pressed through and touched the edge of Jesus’ garment, believing she would be healed. In that moment, Jesus stopped in His tracks, knowing that power had gone out from Him, but not seeing to whom it had gone. Peter’s response was that the whole crowd was pressing in. But Jesus was saying, “No, one person touched Me with such faith, with such expectancy, that they drew the miracle working power out of Me. Someone believed healing was coming and activated the flow. They drew favor out of Me. They drew healing, freedom, restoration. They activated My supernatural power.”

There were many miracles that Jesus initiated—multiplying the food, raising Lazarus from the dead, healing Peter’s mother-in-law. But this case shows us how we can initiate the miracle. She had an unwavering faith, this knowing that God is faithful and what He promised was on the way. You have to keep believing, expecting, and stretching your faith to touch Jesus. That’s when God will make things happen that you could never make happen.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that it is possible for me to so believe in You that power will go out to accomplish what I need and cannot do by myself. Thank You that You will stop in Your tracks when my faith touches You. I’m going to keep believing, expecting, and stretching my faith. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Will You Come?

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16, NLT

Many times, we get our image of God from our natural father. If he was loving and kind, it will help you have the right perception of God. But if he was harsh, condescending, and wasn’t around much, don’t let that negative image distort who your heavenly Father is. God is loving and forgiving. He is for you. He has a great plan for your life. He’s not focused on your failures. He has mercy for every mistake. He’s waiting to gladly welcome you as the father did the prodigal son (Luke 15). All you have to do is take a step toward Him and He comes running toward you with arms wide open. No more living condemned, feeling unworthy. Come boldly to His throne and receive this mercy. You won’t receive it if you go around thinking, “I don’t deserve it. I’m unworthy.” God is calling your name today, saying, “Come to Me.” Will you come? Will you shake off the guilt, the condemnation, the past, and put your shoulders back and see yourself as God sees you—forgiven, redeemed, cleansed, without fault, worthy, and righteous?

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that I can come boldly before You, knowing that as Your child this is my rightful place. Thank You that I don’t have to earn Your favor or be good enough to come into Your presence. I am coming to pray bold prayers and to dream bold dreams. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Seasons of Testing

You have tested us, O God; you have purified us like silver.
Psalm 66:10, NLT

We all go through seasons of testing, seasons of proving, seasons when we don’t understand why we’re going through difficulties. It’s easy to get discouraged and slack off, but you need to keep being your best. How you respond to difficulties shows what your character is. It shows what you’re capable of handling and how much God can trust you with. It shows how much influence you can carry, how much responsibility He can give you. What you do in the tough times will determine how high you rise.

On the way to your destiny, don’t be surprised if there are people who lie about you, who try to get you to compromise, who are jealous of you at work and play politics. The bad breaks, betrayals, delays, and disappointments are all a part of God’s plan to grow your character and purify your heart. How you handle these times will determine whether you prosper where you are or get stuck. God may not deliver you out of every test on your timetable, but He’ll cause you to flourish at every step of the way.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that You are always working in my life to shape my character and prepare me for the next level You have for me. Thank You for the seasons of testing when You prove my faithfulness. I believe You are taking me higher to be used for Your glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Through the Desert

They did not thirst when he led them through the deserts; he made water flow for them from the rock; he split the rock and water gushed out. Isaiah 48:21, NIV

Deserts represent hard places in our lives, barren places, difficult seasons that could overwhelm us. When you look back over your life, you can see the times when God gave you water in the desert. At the time you may not have realized it. You were so caught up in the troubles and trying to make it through, you didn’t recognize it was the grace of God giving you the strength, the favor, helping you do what you couldn’t do. It’s good to take time and reflect on the goodness of God.

No matter what you go through—an illness, a divorce, a betrayal—because you’re a child of the Most High God, there’s going to be water in the desert. It’s not going to overwhelm you. It’s not going to be too much. God is going to give you strength that you can’t explain, courage that you didn’t know you had, favor that you didn’t see coming, and the right people at the right time to help. Get ready. When He makes the water flow, you will flourish and blossom in the desert.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You for loving me so much that even when I am in a desert place, You provide me with rivers of water. Thank You that no matter where I go or what I go through, You are always here with me. I believe that You always provide the grace to overcome the difficulties. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

This Is Your Time

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13, NLT

You don’t just happen to be alive today on Planet Earth. Before your parents ever breathed a breath, before they ever showed up, God already knew you and chose when you would live. This is your moment, your time. You’ve been equipped and empowered. He put His anointing on your life, His favor. You have the talent, the courage, the connections you need. Everything has been strategically thought out. You’re not lacking. The obstacles you face are not too much for you. If you couldn’t handle it, God wouldn’t have put you here now. If the giants were too big, you wouldn’t be here. If the dream wasn’t attainable, you wouldn’t have breath.

After all God has done, handpicked you for such a time as this, and crowned you with His favor, don’t go through life thinking you’re ordinary. The circumstances in your life may not be good today, but your destiny has been carefully planned. The conditions are right for you to succeed, to flourish, to blossom, to accomplish dreams, to overcome obstacles, to leave your mark. You are well able.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that You are the Most High God, and You handpicked me and set me apart for Your own purpose before my birth. Thank You for calling me to live by a higher standard and be set apart for Your purpose. I want to live up to my calling and bring You praise. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Firmly in His Hands

“Never turn your gaze from me, for I am your faithful God. I will infuse you with my strength and help you in every situation. I will hold you firmly with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10, TPT

It’s easy to feel as though our life is out of control at times. Everything is going wrong, one bad break or dead end after another. None of it makes sense. But we have to realize that it’s not happening by accident. The enemy didn’t somehow wrestle the controls of your life away from God, and now He’s standing by hoping things work out for you. God has you firmly in the palm of His hand. He’s promised that nothing can sn**ch you away. Him being for you is more than the world being against you.

The way to stay in faith is to recognize it’s all a part of God’s plan, which He promises to work out. Don’t waste your time trying to figure everything out and living frustrated over disappointments or what’s not happening. Try a new approach. It’s very freeing when you can say, “God, I don’t understand it, but I trust You. I know You’re working all things for my good, so I’m going to stay in peace, knowing that You will get me to where I’m supposed to be.”

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that what so often looks like trouble is really Your hand moving me toward Your plan. Thank You that I can rest assured that You are working behind the scenes and orchestrating my steps. Help me to walk by faith and stay in peace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Stand Still

Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Standstill, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.” Exodus 14:13, NKJV

Two million Israelites who had escaped slavery in Egypt were trapped by Pharaoh and his army at the Red Sea. When they began to panic and cry out to Moses for a battle plan, Moses’ reply was for them to stand still and watch God fight for them. In those moments, the angel of the Lord, who had been leading the Israelites, and the pillar of cloud moved to a position behind them, cutting them off from Pharaoh. After the Israelites passed through the sea on dry land, Pharaoh’s entire army tried to follow but drowned.

It’s easy to get frustrated with difficulties and try to straighten people out, to force a door to open, to defend yourself against what was said. But that’s when you have to hold your peace, remain at rest, and let God fight that battle. Sometimes the best strategy is to do nothing. Leave it alone. It can also be the hardest strategy, but you have to stand still to see the salvation of the Lord. If you’ll not take matters into your hands, you’ll see God do things that you could never do.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that You have power over what I cannot control. When I face problems that seem overwhelming, help me learn to stand still, hold my peace, and remain at rest. I am believing that You will fight my battles and get me to where I’m supposed to be. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

A Pure Heart

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”
Matthew 5:8, NIV

The word “pure” in the original Greek is where we get our word “catharsis” from, which means “cleansing, purifying.” After surgery, a catheter is a tube used to drain the toxins and infection out of the body. Today’s Scripture is saying if you’re going to see God, you have to keep the impurities out. When an offense comes, when insults and disrespect come, you have to make sure the toxins are released and flow out. You can’t stop them from coming, but you can stop the toxins from staying.

The problem comes when we hold on to hurts, keep thinking about what someone said or how we were treated. Now our heart is not pure. There’s unforgiveness, resentment, anger, or bitterness. That’s why we can’t see God. Is your vision limited because you’re not dealing with offenses properly? Is the favor on your life, the blessing, the creativity, the potential, not showing up like it should because you’re holding on to hurts? The good news is, you will see things clear up if you start forgiving quickly, releasing the toxins, and making sure your heart stays pure.

Prayer For Today

“Father, thank You that I can have a pure heart today because of the blood of Jesus. Thank You that I can release any hurts, any anger, any guilt and bitterness and flush them out of my life. Help me to forgive whatever needs forgiving and let go of the past. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
