You can make a difference! Volunteers just like you share their time and talents and improve lives with COA. Here are our current volunteer needs:

Cutters & Clippers–Our Care Connection program is looking for interested volunteers to assist in basic lawn care and maintenance on Thursdays 8am-12pm. This kind of service helps local seniors remain in their own homes where they are most comfortable, rather than being compelled to enter assisted living for lack of assistance.

Coastal Community Center (Coffee bar)–Our Marine St. senior center is looking for a volunteer to help serve coffee to our participants this summer on Wednesdays @ 8:30am-10am (seasonal opportunity). If you would like to help on an as-needed basis, we are asking for substitutes as well for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Meals on Wheels (Substitute drivers) –We have a need this summer for substitute volunteer Meals on Wheels drivers who are willing to do any route and have a flexible schedule, including delivering meals to our Hastings Senior Center as needed (@ 11am Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays). Our substitute drivers for residential deliveries will pick up meals on the mornings of their designated day(s) between 9am and 10:30am at our Marine Street location. Delivery routes can take about 1.5-3 hours to complete.

Meals on Wheels (Kitchen)–This opportunity involves volunteers packing meals for Meals on Wheels at our downtown location. We need 2 kitchen volunteers each for the following days @ 9am-10:30am: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Sunshine Center (Adult Day Care Activity Assistant) – Assist staff with group activities such as reading, assistance with games, crafts, serving lunch or snacks, wiping tables, etc. The volunteer acts as an extra set of hands and eyes to assist a group of wonderful participants who have developed memory loss and some confusion. Days and times of opportunity: Mondays & Wednesdays (one or both days; full or half days available) @ 9:30am-1pm & 1pm-4pm.

IMEP (Ponte Vedra)–Our Memory Center in Ponte Vedra needs a volunteer on Mondays from 8:45am to 12pm (consistent/ongoing/weekly).

Sunshine Center (Assistant)–Volunteer needed at our Sunshine Center in Downtown St. Augustine. Duties include assisting staff with activities, serving lunches, cleaning up, and assisting a legally blind person with feeding and some activity interactions. This opportunity is available on Fridays 8:30am-11:30am. This is a great way to show dignity and respect to our seniors.

Take advantage of these opportunities to fill your free time while helping others and making a difference in their lives!

To download a volunteer application, visit www.coasjc.org/volunteer. For more information or to schedule your interview, please contact COA's Volunteer Coordinator Catherine Quintieri at [email protected] or at 904-209-3686.

Tuesday Tale 💚

One difficult moment should not define a young person’s future.

At 18 years old, this young man experienced a serious mental health crisis. When he was released from the hospital, his family cared deeply about him—but they were not equipped to provide the level of support he needed to move forward safely.

Without the right resources, many young people in similar situations face homelessness.

Instead, he was connected to Port in the Storm.

There, he found stable housing, caring adults, and the support needed to regain confidence and build a path forward. Through case management, life skills coaching, and advocacy with school personnel, he was able to focus on his future.

The outcome?

He graduated high school.

He enrolled in and actively participates in an intensive outpatient mental health program.

And he secured summer employment.

These achievements represent far more than a checklist—they reflect healing, stability, and hope after a time of crisis.

This is why Port in the Storm exists: to provide young people with the support they need when they have nowhere else to turn.

Because of your support, this young man’s story did not end with a crisis. It continued with graduation, healing, opportunity, and a future worth believing in.

Life-changing moments like these are only possible because of consistent donor support.

This is what unlocking hope looks like.

At 18 years old, Alli had already spent nights sleeping in homeless camps — carrying everything she owned with her and trying to survive one day at a time.

When home no longer felt safe or stable, she made the difficult decision to leave. But with nowhere else to turn, the streets became her reality.

For young people experiencing homelessness, isolation comes quickly. Trust disappears. Hope can feel far away.

𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐧, 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐩.

Through the SOS Street Outreach Services, trained professionals met Alli where she was — not in an office, but in the reality she was living every day. In camps, on the streets, in forgotten places throughout our community, these teams go directly to vulnerable youth with one goal: to help them find a way forward.

And because of you, a door opened.

Sometimes it starts with basic needs — food, hygiene supplies, a conversation without judgment. Small moments that build trust and remind someone they matter.

That’s where Alli’s story began to shift.

SOS Outreach exists to identify and assist homeless youth, connecting them to age-appropriate resources, services, and support that can change the course of a young person’s life.

This is what unlocking hope looks like.
Meeting someone in their hardest moment and helping them believe stability is still possible.

Because of you, Alli is no longer facing this alone.
