Dear Shepherd’s Church Family,
We are so grateful for the opportunity to gather each week at Sutter Middle School. God has truly blessed us with an incredible, family-style church community—one that is welcoming, joyful, and full of life. As your leadership team, our goal is to maintain this spirit while also raising awareness about some safety considerations, especially for our children.
Please keep in mind that other organizations not affiliated with The Shepherd’s Church also lease space at the school during our service times. In addition, there have been multiple instances where individuals who appear to be experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or substance use issues have been found on or near the school grounds. While we are committed to treating all people with compassion and dignity, these situations can sometimes be unpredictable. As stewards of this space and of the families God has entrusted to us, we want to ensure that everyone remains safe.
Here’s how you can help:
Please be mindful of where your children are at all times while on the school property.
Children are welcome to play and enjoy time together, and we encourage that! We simply ask that parents or guardians use their best judgment about supervision, especially in outdoor areas or less visible parts of the campus.
Be aware that some children enjoy climbing the exterior staircases; please note that individuals have been found sleeping in these areas. We encourage parents to use caution and check these spots if their children are nearby.
For their safety, children should not enter the storage trailer or be around production equipment or large rolling carts, which could shift or cause injury.
Be sure your children are checked in and out properly if they’re participating in children’s ministry activities.
Talk with your children in an age-appropriate way about being aware of their surroundings. Help them understand what to do if someone they don’t know approaches them or if they feel unsafe — such as immediately finding a parent, leader, or trusted adult.
If you see something concerning, notify a church leader or safety team member. In case of an emergency, please call 911 first.
Please know that The Shepherd’s Church has existing safety protocols in place and will continue to expand and enhance these measures in the weeks and months ahead to better protect our church family.
Thank you for helping us preserve the warm, welcoming atmosphere God has given The Shepherd’s Church, while also being wise and proactive. We’re grateful for your partnership in keeping our church family safe and strong.
In Christ,
The Shepherd’s Church, Folsom Leadership Team
