Holy Spirit Parish Sacramento

Holy Spirit Parish Sacramento Holy Spirit Parish became Sacramento’s fifth Catholic parish on April 1, 1940. The spiritual legacy of Holy Spirit over the past half-century is rich.

For some families, it is a three-generation spiritual home. Today, Holy Spirit parishioners honor that legacy in a variety of ways. We have many ministries - whether one is interested in our prayer community, St. Vincent de Paul Society, scripture study groups, our 20-90 group, a liturgical minister and/or a hospitality minister, there is always a welcome spot at our table.

Pray for a peaceful transition on the 20th of January.
I believe that there are two essential beliefs if our democracy will heal and thrive.
The first belief was presented by former governor of California in an address to the nation last week. He said he learned it as part of his Catholic education, "the nation needs a Servant Heart." All of us are challenged to serve others rather than ourselves. Let's remember that the U.S.A. is OUR country not MY country.
The other belief is to work for the common good. A nation whose citizens place a priority on the needs of others will have less poverty, crime, illness and homelessness.
Following the example of Jesus, each of us must seek the basic goods for all of us.

I am back from a five day rest. The noon Masses will resume on Monday Jan. 11.
I will be using Eucharistic Pray II for reconciliation for this week's noon Masses.
Our country needs reconciliation and healing. The prayers for this Mass are beautiful reminding us of the need to forgive and to work together so that true peace and forgiveness will be a reality.'
I will meet with my staff to prepare a three hour triduum of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament on January 19th the vigil of the inauguration of President elect Biden. This will take place in the church with the Blessed Sacrament exposed for adoration. There will be time for private devotions and the Rosary. Please let the office know if you would like to participate.
Pray for a peaceful transition of the office of the president.

Let's join together and pray for reconciliation in our nation. Loving God send your Spirit on the United States of America; a Spirit of humility, a Spirit of wisdom, a Spirit of forgiveness.
Give us the grace to see your face in the faces of our sisters and brothers. Give us hearts that burst with charity towards every person we encounter.
Help us to put aside the differences that divide us and the strength to work together for the common good of all our citizens.
You God are love itself and the source of all truth. Instill in each citizen a desire to make love and truth the standard for our national morality.
We ask this in the name of your Son, the Prince of Peace, Jesus the Lord.
Amen.

Parishioners received a letter describing the financial needs of the parish. The response was overwhelming. Folks started to fulfill their pledges for the STEM Building and the future Parish Center. Many are taking advantage of the electronic transfer program. The use of envelops has increased. If you wish to participate in the electronic funds transfer go to the web sit hs-sacramento.org.

Again thank you and blessing to all who can contribute to Holy Spirit Parish. If you are not able to contribute at this time, remember that without your prayers no ministry, program is possible

Merry Christmas!
Some might think that Christmas is over. As Catholics we celebrate Christmas Day for eight days. It is called an octave. In the liturgy of the hours we pray the psalms for Christmas for eight days. The Christmas season continues until the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. This year January 10th.
I encourage all to celebrate January first, the Solemnity of Mary the Mother of God. Don't forget the Epiphany on January 6th.

Mass for New Year's eve is at 6:30 P.M. live streamed and New2 Year's day at 10:00 A.M.

To all of you who check into the Holy Spirit Face Book page; May your Christmas and New Year be filled with blessings. Many of you received the Parish Christmas mailing. Include was a letter describing the financial need of the parish during this pandemic. The response was a wave of contributions to the Parish, pledges for the Stem Building and electronic funds transfers.
I am thankful to all of you who have been able to give during this difficult time. Those who may have not been able to give; I ask for one thing, your prayers. Fr. Michael Hebda
