A few more photos from this year's annual conference of the WV United Methodist Church on the beautiful campus of WV Wesleyan College where we celebrated 70 years of full clergy rights for women; full ordination and equal status was granted on 5/4/1956. Some cabinet members and clergy are praying over the Bishop, Dr. Debra Wallace-Padgett who went on to preach in power a message titled "Rooted in Love" from the sermon text Ephesians 3:17b-18.
Appointments for clergy were established and our pastor, Paula McCoy, will be returning to serve Bascom for another year.

See this lovely tree and the beautiful grassy area? Yup, that's where we plan to worship (weather permitting) this Sunday, June 7th. If it goes well, then we will worship in the outdoors all month of June. Our sermon series for the month of June is "Get Out!" and throughout this series we will get inspired by those who followed God and made bold moves of faith.
Scripture this week is Genesis 12: 1 - 9. It reads that when Abram went away from his homeland as the Lord told him to do, Lot (his nephew) went with him. How can our bold faith and actions for God inspire other to follow? Bring a folding chair and come to the yard at 11:15am this Sunday to hear more.

United Methodists offered prayers for a safe deployment for Chaplain Christopher W. “Chip” Bennett in a ceremony earlier this month at United Methodist Temple Beckley WV . "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee" and "This is My Father's World" are two of the songs we will be raising our voices in praise to sing this week. Our sermon is "Marked by the Maker" and our scriptures include the creation story from Genesis 1:1 - 2: 4a, along with Psalm 8. We will discuss what it means to be created in the image of God and to have dominion over the works of God's hands. Come to Bascom at 11:15 am this Sunday to lift your voice in praise too and to hear the message.

"Party Planning" is our sermon for this Sunday, May 24, 2026. It is Pentecost Sunday, the birthday of the church, and our sermon text is Acts 2: 1 - 21, along with Numbers 11: 24 - 30. Any good party requires planning and we will explore the planning that God put into the party, how it ties in with the Old Testament festivals, and what common images God uses to display power! Come join the party at 11:15am.

Bascom folks are serving God by serving their neighbors. 65 meals were prepared this morning for the "Gwen's Meals" program and delivered by the volunteers drivers. Glory to God!

This Sunday, May 17, 2026 our message is called "Parting Words" and the sermon text is Luke 24: 44-53. We will explore the Ascension of Jesus Christ and His blessing of the disciples. We will answer the questions of what the Ascension meant for the disciples and for the church; what does it mean to receive a blessing; how can we bless others in the Name of Jesus Christ? On Sunday, May 10, 2026 our sermon text is John 20: 24 - 29 as we continue our series "Encounters with Jesus". This message is "Moving Beyond Doubt" and we will examine the questions Thomas had, the confirmation he needed, and the generous and loving response of Jesus as he proved to Thomas that He had been resurrected.
