Establish in 1873, there were Circuit riding Methodist preachers who had a vision to bring the gospel to the Mangum Township in Rougemont, NC. The family names of Crabtree, Cozart, Hall, Mangum, Parker, Parrish, Roberts and Umstead saw the vision to build Mount Tabor UMC. Mangum provided the site, deeded to Mount Tabor by his daughters Mary and Pattie Mangum. At the end of the great depression Mou

nt Tabor’s exterior became brick, the vestibule and Sunday School rooms were added, and the stain glass windows were installed in 1939-1940. In 1954 our 63rd Governor of North Carolina was laid to rest in the cemetery. In 1971, the steeple was raised along with an addition to the Bacon Fellowhip Hall. Where bar-b-que and brunswick stews were shared for many years.
