Jen Glantz, the author of the heartwarming memoir, "Finally a Bride," spoke to our Sisterhood on May 5 and shared the unusual story of serving as a perpetual bridesmaid at countless weddings before tying the knot herself.

Jen told us about how, after being a bridesmaid for numerous weddings, she turned a post on Craig’s List that went viral into a thriving business. She also explained how after going on 14 dates in 30 days that never warranted a 2nd date, the 15th date made her “Finally a Bride”, the title of her enjoyable and amusing book.

Our Sisterhood held a fantastic Women's Seder on March 26 led with warmth and graciousness by Elaine Ben-Levy. We learned aspects of the Passover story that most of us didn't know. For example, Moses would never have been born if his father had gone through with his plan to divorce his wife Yocheved when Pharoah decreed that all first-born male Hebrew babies were to be killed!

About 40 women participated in the seder and shared their most distinctive memories of past seders with families and friends as well as describing the women who've influenced and inspired them over the years.

Then everyone enjoyed a delicious meal! Many thanks to the women who helped set up the beautiful seder table and to the very attentive and enthusiastic attendees!

Lunch 'N Learn today featured our member Michelle Palter speaking about her trip to Poland last March with Project Inspire, a Jewish outreach organization that welcomes Jews of all levels of observance. She traveled to Poland as part of a Project Inspire Long Island group of 32 women, where they toured Warsaw and Krakow and visited Auschwitz, the most notorious of the Holocaust death camps. The trip made a big impact on her, she said, because both of her parents were Holocaust survivors, and she was able to track down the childhood residence of her father in Krakow with the assistance of the trip's Polish tour guide.

Sukkot Celebration Featured Jewish Writers Whose Essays Appeared in On Being Jewish Now

Four authors read their short essays on aspects of the Jewish experience at our mesmerizing program on October 9, which was followed by a book signing and dessert in our spacious temple sukkah. Each book is only $13.50 and features captivating essays from 75 Jewish writers. Profits received by Zibby Media are donated to Artists Against Antisemitism, a non-profit initiative that unites creative voices to combat antisemitism through art, storytelling, and community engagement.

Panelists included from left to right: Alix Strauss, Rebecca Raphael, and Rachel Levy Lesser. Writer Amy Blumenthal, in the black sweater, is shown to the left of Alix Strauss, in a separate photo.

Beatrice Bloom Karten Becomes Sisterhood President at Installation on August 14, 2025.

We celebrated with a beautiful ceremony followed by a delicious dinner and Israeli dancing to live klezmer music that Cantor Barnoy and clarinetist Ken Malter performed! Beatrice, who goes by Beatrice Bloom, M.D., professionally, is the vice chair of radiation medicine at Northwell Health, has been a TBS member since 1996, and a longtime Torah Fund patron-level donor, which provides key support for the training of clergy at Conservative Movement seminaries.

The dinner also paid tribute to outgoing Sisterhood president Lisa Sakol, who has impressed everyone with her warmth and friendliness.

Please sign up as a Sisterhood member on the temple website. The Sisterhood year began on July 1, and you must renew your membership annually to remain in good standing. Under menu, in the upper left-hand corner of the homepage, go to the Community tab and scroll down until you see the form.

When you look at the evening's photos, Beatrice is wearing a pink dress in the front row. In the photo with Lisa Sakol and Beatrice holding their flowers, Lisa is on the left.
