During the Annual Session of the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Inc., several people spoke powerful and prophetic words into my life. One encounter in particular brought me to tears. A woman leader began unpacking Ephesians 3:20, explaining how God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we could ask or think, and applying that Scripture to my life in a way I had never heard before. I knew the Holy Spirit was speaking through her.

I was ready to share who she was and everything she said, but I felt a prompting in my spirit to keep this one close. That’s how deep it was. Sometimes sharing every prophetic word can increase your spiritual warfare, and some things are meant to be held close. In a world where some women see another woman’s light as competition, I’m grateful for women who recognize what God has placed in someone else and aren’t afraid to speak life into them. Another woman’s light doesn’t diminish yours. There’s room for all of us to shine, and I genuinely want to see everybody win. My prayer is that God sends someone into your life who will speak life into you, confirm what God is doing, and pour into you in ways you never expected. Be encouraged.

Another beautiful moment during the Annual Session of the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Inc. I was standing in the hallway talking with several people when we heard someone call out, “Tracy!” We all turned around, and there stood Dr. Paulette Dillard, President of Shaw University. As a former student and member of Shaw University’s Board of Trustees, it meant so much to me that she remembered me and called my name before I even saw her.

Never underestimate the impact you leave on people. Long after you’ve left a room, the way you’ve carried yourself, treated others, and served with integrity can leave an impression that speaks for itself. What a beautiful reminder that genuine relationships and meaningful connections matter.

One of the highlights of attending the Annual Session of the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Inc., was having the opportunity to sit beside Rev. Dr. Boise Kimber, President of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. What I appreciated most was how down-to-earth he was. No big-time attitude, no need to remind anyone of his position. We talked, laughed, and cut up like we had known each other for years. 🫢 At one point, I said, “I see you’ve got your purple and gold on. Is there any particular reason for your choice of colors?” And of course, he made it known that he’s a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Moments like these remind me of the importance of simply being yourself. You never know who God will allow you to sit beside, meet, or connect with along the way. Titles and positions are wonderful, but there’s something special about people who remain approachable, genuine, and comfortable in their own skin. Never become so important that you forget how to be human. What a wonderful experience.

On the last night of the Annual Session of the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Inc., some friends asked me to sit on the front row with them, but I wanted to sit in the back. And when I say the back, I literally sat in the LAST ROW of the convention center. While I was sitting there, one of the vice presidents came from the stage and informed me that I was being requested to sit on the main stage to read the Scripture. When I arrived, I was seated beside Rev. Dr. Boise Kimber, President of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. He welcomed me, and after I read the Scripture, he looked at me and said, “I now know who Tracy Ross is.” Then he said, “Let’s get a picture.”

I walked into that room content with simply being present. I don’t know who needs to hear this, but you don’t have to seek a seat when God has already made room for you. There is no need to fight for recognition or position yourself to be noticed. God knows exactly where you’re sitting, even when it’s the very last row. Be encouraged.

Just arrived in North Carolina for the Annual Session of the General Baptist State Convention of North Carolina, Inc. As the former Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Woman’s Baptist Home and Foreign Missionary Convention of North Carolina, I try to attend when I can. I got in, didn’t change my clothes, kept my jeans, hat, and slides on because I’m TIRED.

It’s okay to just show up and be present. As I made my way to the back of the room, people began to recognize me, leaning forward to give me hugs and saying, “We miss you.” And in that moment, I was reminded that I was home. No need to dress up, make an impression, or prove anything. Sometimes the greatest feeling is knowing you’re loved just for showing up as yourself.

I am grateful for the invitation to serve as the speaker for the 2026 Baptist Women’s World Day of Prayer on Monday, November 2, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Washington, DC.

This year’s theme, “Living the Good News,” with a focus on “Faith in Action” (James 2:17), reminds us that our faith must extend beyond what we say and be reflected in how we live, love, lead, and serve. I look forward to sharing what God has placed on my heart for this occasion. To God be the glory 🧡
