Adare is a beautifully manicured village of thatch roof cottages.

Day 5:
We visited the Westport House and had a guided tour. The famous pirate queen Grace O'Malley built one of her castles here in the 1500s. The current "Big House" was built by the Browne family in 1730 and remained in their family until 2017.

We then made our way to Croagh Patrick. We stopped at the national famien memorial, a sculpted "famien ship" with skeletal depictions, which was across the road from Croagh Patrick. Most of us climbed Croagh Patrick until we reached St. Patrick's statue where we prayed.

Our last stop for the day was the Benedictine Abbey at Kylemore. We took a self guided tour of the Abbey and the Neogothic church. MSNR celebrated mass in the monastic church.
We made a roadside stop at a fairy tree and saw mussel pots.

We went back to our hotel in Westport for dinner.

We traveled to Knock, a humble village who's shire attracts pilgrims from all over the world. The parish church of Knock was where a heavenly apparition of The Blessed Mother, St. Joseph, St. John The Evangelist and an alter with a lamb upon it where seen by 15 recorded witnesses. The Basilica located within the grounds opened in 1976 and holds 4,500 people. Some popular visitors of the shrine include: Mother Theresa, Pope John Paul II, and Pop Francis. In 1979, the church was blessed by Pope John Paul II, granting it Basilica status.
Mass was celebrated with MSGR in the apparition chapel.
Our next stop was Ballintubber Abbey. We toured the abbey and heard the story of Sean na' Sagart a notorious priest hunter. Near by is an accient sacred path called Tóchr Phádraig. This connects the abbey to Croagh Patrick.

We checked into our hotel in Westport for the night.

Day 3:
On our way to Sligo, we visited Lough Derg where stations island and St. Patrick's purgatory are.

Pilgrims can do a 3 day pilgrimage which entails fasting from midnight the night before they arrive, continuing fasting through the 3rd day. They also remove their shoes immediately upon arriving at the island, and leave their shoes off until the 3rd day. They also do not sleep until the night of the second day. Pilgrims can also do a 1 day pilgrimage.
MSGR celebrated mass at St. Of the Angel's chapel.

We continued onto Drumcliffe where we looked at a Celtic High Cross in the cemetery near where poet William Butler Yeats was burried.
We then went to the William Yeats center where we had a reading and a guided tour.

Finally we checked into the Clayton hotel in Silgo. This hotel looked like a castle but was formerly used as a hospital and mental institution. Sleep tight 🤪

Day 1: Flight in, Down Cathedral and St. Patrick's grave.

Our flight into Ireland was uneventful except it was delayed leaving. We were given a meal (choice of chicken and rice or pasta)and a fair selection of movies and TV shows to watch if one chose. They also gave each seat a pillow and blanket for comfort. We were given breakfast (yogurt, granola, and fig bar) about an hour before we landed in Dublin.

From the airport, we headed straight to Down Cathedral where we watched a video on St. Patrick in the visitors center. After the video we hiked up a small hill to the Down Cathedral and to St. Patrick's grave, which is also the resting place of St. Brigid and St. Columba. We said a short prayer and explored on our own for a bit before heading back down to the bus.

We made our way to Belfast where we checked into our hotel.
