Jason Leo Skaggs, age 40 of Paintsville, Kentucky passed away Friday, September 24, 2021.
Born March 19, 1981 in Floyd County, he was the son of Wanda Susie Wright and the late Richard Skaggs. In addition to his father, Jason is preceded in death by a brother, Richard Skaggs, Jr; grand parents, James and Georgeann Salyers and Leo and Ywan Skaggs. He is survived by his mother, Wanda Susie Wright and step father, Greg Wright; his wife, Brionna Renee' Lyons Skaggs; and two sons, Damion Kane Skaggs and Kreed Bradley Skaggs both of Staffordsville, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held 2:00pm Tuesday, September 28, 2021 in the chapel of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville. Friends may visit the Phelps & Son Funeral Home Tuesday from 10:00am until time of service at 2:00pm. Arrangements are under the direction of the Phelps & Son Funeral Home.

Wanted to let everyone know that we will be having a yard sale at fire department on Friday June 4th and Saturday June 5th. This is for anyone wanting to sale plz let me know. If you know anyone wanting to sale that day we do ask that they have own tables and leave no trash. If you are not a member of the Fire Department and would like to give a small donation that’s great if not that’s fine to no one will be turned away. The only thing we ask is that you respect the fact that the fire department will be have cool drinks, hotdogs and sweets for sale which all proceeds go to fire department. Please help spread the word and feel free to give my pone number 606-793-3579 to anyone interested. Thanks everyone.

Public Service Announcement

The river crested yesterday at 39.79 feet and is receding slowly leaving some folks unable to reach their residences or begin the cleanup process. The river is currently at 38.87 feet at the Levisa Fork river gauge and is forecasted to drop to 30 feet by late tomorrow evening, although the projection could change. If you are displaced from your residence as a result of flooding or have any unmet basic needs, please call 606-789-2260 or 606-789-4221 to request assistance.

To report damages to your home or business, from the recent flood event, please call Paintsville/ Johnson County Emergency Management at 606-789-2260 or 606-789-4221 to report damages. If you have insurance, contact your agent and file a claim. Make sure to document all of your damages, before you clean up and take photos. Make a list of all damages, save all receipts for post-damage repair and clean up.

A request was made to the State for assistance from the National Guard early yesterday morning and they arrived late yesterday and evening and have been working in the community today providing transport services and helping to meet basic needs requests. Also, a request has been made to the Red Cross and Christian Appalachian Project for assistance. These agencies should be in the area soon to begin their assessment process and begin providing direct services to affected individuals. Other community non-profits and churches are planning to provide supplies and services to those impacted. We will share their information as soon as it is available.
