The Purpose of Christmas
At Christmas, we celebrate the birthday of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whose mission is to save us from our sins. Scripture reckons with this in Matthew 1:21. The problem of sin must be dealt with as a condition for the sinful, mortal human beings to be reconciled back to God following the fall in Genesis chapter 3.
It was impossible for us to fulfill God’s just and righteous demand for a holy, sinless sacrifice for the remission of sins. Only Christ the One with no sin can fulfill this requirement for our redemption from the deceit and destructiveness of sin. “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Consequently, the best and a most acceptable way to celebrate His birth is to believe in, accept His offering for our redemption from sins. Scriptures reckon in Ephesians 1:7 and Colossians 1:14 that it is through Christ that we have redemption, forgiveness of sin.
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:8-9). Christmas offers a chance, a wonderful opportunity to request His forgiveness and embrace His unconditional love demonstrated in the birth of Christ (John 3:16). Christmas would have no significance if we don’t do this, and we would be depriving ourselves of the peace, joy, and happiness that come from true repentance based on the offering of His birth to save, redeem us from our sins. The announcement, arrival of His birth was intended and has always been to bring great joy, relief to humanity (Luke 2: 10-11). Anyone who believes in Him will be forgiven, spared from the evil and destructiveness of sin, and have abundant life (John 3:16, 10:10). You can experience that great joy and the abundant life associated with the benefits of His birth to all people by confessing your sins to and believing in Him with your heart (Romans 10: 9-10).
We pray that the purpose of His birth be fulfilled in your life and family and that you continue to know, follow Christ to experience, enjoy the benefits of His saving grace. We wish you a very merry Christmas and a wonderful, peaceful, and prosperous new year. Our God reigns and Jesus is Lord. Please email any questions or prayer requests to [email protected]
