A thought for this week.
In today’s gospel for the 17 Sunday of the Christian Year, Jesus uses several similes for the kingdom of heaven. One reads: "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a person finds and reburies, then in their joy, goes and sells all that they have and buys that field."
A person at liturgy asked - ‘why buy the field and not just take what was found’? Great question! While this underscores the value of faith and spiritual awakening and the joy that brings, we shouldn’t get lost in the possessing motif. Do any of us possess joy or do we experience it? Do own faith or is the experience of faith one that enlivens and enriches who we are becoming?

When we think about it, our treasures often get put in a drawer or box, some safe place so as not to be lost. We rediscover them every so often, take them out, and are reminded of what captivated us or the joy we had in the finding.

Why buy the field? Maybe Jesus is inviting us to be “all in” with the experience of the reign of God, to let it be the ground under our feet, the very ground of our being? Faith isn’t a bauble to bring out every so often, rather its at the core of who we are meant to be. When we are all in, faith becomes a mutual act of trust between the God of our creation, and ourselves. In that trusting relationship, we can weather any storm and flourish in ways we have not yet imagined.

We are having an online prayer circle. My love to everyone who reads this. Let's pray for one another today because prayers are needed right now. I ask you to kindly post this status for one hour, to whisper a prayer for all those who have family problems, health struggles, job issues, or worries of any kind and just need to know that someone cares. Do it for all of us, because nobody is immune.
Praying for my family, friends and all those whose we don't know but need a bit of grace in their lives. ❤️
