"What is the proper initial historical context in which these chapters and texts—1 Corinthians 15, 2 Corinthians 4 and 5, and 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18—are to be read and understood? The answer is that it is in the redemptive-historical and covenantal context of the eschaton of Old Testament Israel from AD 30 to 70, with the consequences that this unique period in Israel’s history would then have for the Gentile nations in subsequent world history. Why do we say this? It is because Paul mentions the παρουσία (parousia, presence) of Christ in 1 Corinthians 15:23 and the arrival of the τέλος (telos, goal or end) in 15:24.
