THE LIBERTY LETTER - 156 The New Testament Church Of Christ
“And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch” (Acts 11:26, KJV).
Loved ones, Jesus Christ said He would build His church (Matt. 16:18). By using the word “it,” He declared He built only one. It therefore makes a difference what we believe. We cannot afford to be mistaken. The Bible holds the answer, so let’s unlock the door and see for ourselves.
The church is a membership of people called the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:27; Ephesians 1:22-23). There is one body, thus, one church (Ephesians 4:4). Jesus is the head of the body – the church (Colossians 1:18).
The record of the past twenty centuries reveal the facts concerning the appearance of many man-made religious bodies. Below we will list just a few (16) of the prominent so-called “Christian” churches by founder, place, and time of establishment.
