Proverbs 30:7-9
Two things have I required of thee;
deny me them not before I die:
Remove far from me vanity and lies:
give me neither poverty nor riches;
feed me with food convenient for me:
Lest I be full, and deny thee,
and say, Who is the LORD?
or lest I be poor, and steal,
and take the name of my God in vain.
I have felt these verses close to my heart.
I could have easily written them myself.
In my personal success I have forgotten God and forged on ahead with my personal plans and goals and never considered the poor or hungry or widows or imprisoned…it was always about me and mine.
Once I came to the cross I have given much of my life to the kingdom of God….let me clarify.
Yes I still work all week every day.
I still take time for my family.
I often pause for my own breathe of fresh air
I spend time in my personal relationship with Jesus Christ and my own spiritual growth.
BUT….after that…..there is much time to use.
Being in the past a dedicated sinner to my own purposes I know full well the amount of time one can spend for yourself and all the traps laid for you to keep you occupied.
But now that my focus is on kingdom purposes and my investments are in souls I find a new purpose and time I didn’t realize I had before.
In the church world we do not all agree on what we as Christian’s should and should not be doing or where we should or should not be going….what we should be entertaining ourselves with….and the list goes on.
I can clearly make a list of the things that will take your time before you know what happened and the day will be over and that will lead into a wasted week and a short weekend and the month will pass and another year come to an end and you will find yourself lacking in personal spiritual growth and your church will suffer and your family will feel the effects.
I will separate the list into two categories…Dangerously on the edge ( things many do not do)and…Deceitfully innocent (things that seem harmless)
Dangerously on the edge…
1. Electronic entertainment…Nowadays you can find YouTube and Instagram and Facebook as quick dopamine injections but they are filled with s*xual innuendos….immodesty…immoral and dirty jokes…toxic behaviors and honestly even the advertisements are not Christlike…This is not to mention the many ways you can find Hollywood movies…Netflix Hulu Amazon….and we don’t need a television for any of these…not even a tablet. You can simply find it on your cell phone.
2. Rodeos..Movie theaters…bowling alleys..stadiums whether for concerts or professional sports…..again these are things filled with immodesty..drinking and carousing…and the general entertainment of the world.
Before you entertain the idea of going to any of these places stop and ask the Holy Spirit if He would attend with you or sit down and watch with you!
Then ask yourself what have you done for Jesus this week…last month or quite simply today!?
Deceitfully innocent…this list will get me in trouble…fishing, hunting, gardening, career building, church programs….any hobbies you have…motorcycles…atv…side by sides…mountain climbing, bicycling, welding..woodworking…
The list is endless…….
The bottom line is when the judgement comes God is not going to ask you how well you raced or how fast your best time running was…He’s not concerned how large a trout you caught.
He is going to ask what have you done with your time? What are the words you said to others?
How did you treat or mistreat those around you and most importantly…what have you done with the time He so graciously allowed you to have?
We do not live under grace in the meaning that you believe in God….accepting Jesus as your personal Savior then get on your favorite life and ride it into heaven like a skateboard of ease!
