Check out this essay from Jordan J. Ballor on the Upside-Down Kingdom of God.
Jesus's kingdom doesn't work like earthly kingdoms. In his realm, the last become first, greatness comes through servanthood, and a crown of thorns marks ultimate triumph. This kingdom is like leaven working from the inside out. It transforms hearts first, then flows outward through our work, families, and communities.
"The Kingdom of God is not of this world, but it is a kingdom that exists for this world—for its redemption, salvation, restoration, and consummation. The people of God are the salt, light, and leaven in the world as it stands between Christ's first and second coming."
