Worship Reflections from Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026

Today's sermon from the "Strong and Courageous" series examines Joshua 2:1-13, contrasting fear and faith as two fundamentally different responses to God. Fear originates in the mind, paralyzes people, and places trust in self, circumstances, and seasons, while faith originates in the heart, motivates action, and places trust in the triune God. The sermon outlines three dimensions of faith: it is rooted in God's presence and promises, it is trust put into practice, and it produces faithful action. This framework raises the central question for listeners: do we truly trust God, or are we merely operating from head knowledge rather than heart-level faith?

The sermon then turns to Rahab as the unlikely hero of the passage, drawing a parallel between Joshua's two spies and Jesus sending His disciples out two by two in Luke 10—both pairs sent out equipped with nothing but faith. Rahab's story illustrates that knowledge alone doesn't produce faith; surrounded by fear, she chose to act in faith anyway, and that faith delivered her from death and secured her place in the lineage of the Messiah. The sermon closes on a redemptive note: fear had shaped Rahab's identity as a harlot, but faith transformed her into a hero, demonstrating that the Gospel changes everything and that a person's past does not have to define their future.

Worship Reflections from Sunday, Aug 30, 2026

As Pastor Josiah opened this new series, "Strong and Courageous: With You," he grounded the congregation in Joshua 1:1-9, reminding them that every study of the Old Testament must ultimately point us to Jesus, who is the true point and purpose of Scripture. Joshua, who had faithfully served as Moses' right hand, now stood at the threshold of leading God's people into a land full of giants and uncertainty. In that moment, God gave him three promises: to give the people the land, to grant them victory in every circumstance, and to remain continually present with them. Alongside these promises came two commands—to be strong and courageous, and to know, study, and live out the book of the Law. Pastor Josiah emphasized that our courage doesn't come from our own willpower but from the Holy Spirit, and that what the Father longs to give us always exceeds what He asks of us. No matter what storms we face, Jesus will never leave us.

Pastor Wes built on this theme, noting that Joshua's story is marked by an absence of major character flaws—he was obedient, trusting, and fully surrendered to God, making him a model of godly leadership. Yet even Joshua, a man who had seen so much hardship, needed his strength to come from an outside source: God Himself. Pastor Wes posed the searching question of whether God is truly the sole source of our courage, and reminded listeners that God is always the one who moves toward us first, just as He approached Joshua before Joshua ever reached out. God strengthened Joshua in two ways—through His Word and through His Presence—and calls believers today to strengthen one another in the same way. Ultimately, the hope of the Gospel is that Jesus has made the way for us, and God's presence dwells within us through both our joys and our sorrows, freeing us to live without fear.

In the afternoon, we were treated to a tour of our new Church Home.
