Just a friendly reminder of cemetery rules. It has been discovered by our groundskeepers that 3 separate sections have had rocks and gravel placed all around the headstones. Rocks become projectiles when mowing and trimming and have since been removed. Please don't make their job more difficult than it already is. Thank you!

Updated signs with the rules have been posted throughout the cemetery. If you have questions, stop in or call the office for clarity.

Many think cemeteries represent the end of life, but every year we find a sweet new soul born and nestled in between headstones for safe keeping. It's a beautiful day to walk the grounds and take in the sights of a beautiful spring day. Feel free to share your favorite flower or sights you find around the grounds.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in our first Memorial Day service. More photos and videos will be shared in the near future. The service was beautiful and we are thankful the rain stopped long enough to honor those brave men and women who have given their service to our country.

Did you know that the cemetery provides a flower planting service for those who either cannot be here or can no longer plant themselves? We offer Red Geraniums, Petunias, Marigolds, or Agers. Contact the office today to be added to the Care List and discuss pricing. Flowers will be planted in May and ready for Memorial Day!

Stop number 11 on The Walking Tour of Mt. Vernon Cemetery is Mr. T. Frank Soles. How many of you have visited Camp Soles in Somerset, PA? He, and the late Walter Shaw, established the camp in 1955 and it is still operating 70 years later! Read more about him and others while visiting. Stop in the office for a booklet, Monday - Friday, 9 am - 3 pm.
