Look up at the night sky! From a meteor shower to the planet Venus, August promises some sights to see! 🌟🌠💫🔭

Meteor Shower

The Perseid Meteor Shower will offer a wonderful chance to see up to 50-100 meteors per hour. Peaking overnight on August 12–13, this will be one of the best showers of the year. The meteor shower will take place at the same time as the new moon, allowing for dark skies that hopefully will allow for perfect night viewing.

Venus in the Night Sky

The planet Venus will shine brightly about 30 to 60 minutes after sunset, while the twilight is still fading, on August 14 and 15. Look towards the western horizon and Venus should be the brightest object you see.

Lammas, the time of hope and fear, when we begin to harvest, but when much can still happen before we bring the harvest home. Where I live, this is the beginning of the height of fire season. Yesterday, on Lammas Eve, our land was under evacuation threat as a fire raged nearby. Fear! Today, the evacuation order is lifted, and the fire is contained. Hope! And gratitude, to the firefighters, to all of us and our neighbors who have done much work over the years to mitigate fire danger.
Today, for the festival of Lammas (also known as Loaf Mass Day or Lughnasadh), I offer you all this meditation on hope, growth, and community.
Ritual and ceremony can help us align the changes in the seasons with our inner changes, and strengthen our activism. We can plant seeds, reap a harvest, bake bread, symbolically and practically. I’ll share about all of that, and take you on a journey. I may even admit my bread-baking skills in the name of hope!
