The God of All Comfort

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of sympathy and the God of every comfort, Who comforts us in every trouble so that we may also be able to comfort those who are in any kind of trouble or distress, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Cor 1:3-4

Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and uphold me with Your free Spirit.
Ps 51:12

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever… I have made the Lord God my refuge…
Ps 73: 26, 28

“When you need comfort, go directly to God in prayer and ask Him for it. He is the source of true comfort. We have a bad habit of running to friends or family who are not always able to help us, but the Holy Spirit is The Comforter. As a believer in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit lives in you, so comfort is closer than you might think.

…I am sure we can all look back over our lives and wonder how we ever got through all the things we have had to endure. The answer is that the strength and comfort of God helped us. He comforts us inwardly, and when we are strong inside, we can handle anything that comes against us from the outside.

Once we have experienced God’s comfort, we are also able to comfort and encourage others who are hurting with the same comfort we have received from the Lord.” [Joyce Meyer – Mornings With God]

“Consolation is a gift for those who have been grieved and who cast themselves on the Father of mercies. It is not the promise that we will not experience grief. Nor is the Christian faith to be thought of as the promise we will not suffer…especially for carrying our crosses for Christ.” [Dr. John Neufeld]

CS Lewis recognized God as the “indwelling comforter” who meets us at the bottom of our pain, allowing us to find consolation only after we have surrendered our pride and faced reality. Lewis noted that [our faith] can be a source of unspeakable comfort, but it cannot be found by making comfort the primary goal. If you seek truth first [and God’s will], you will eventually find comfort as a natural result.

To have lasting comfort, we must listen to what the Holy Spirit tells us when we seek His comfort – whether we want to hear it or not – and then do it with the strength He provides. And, not worry & fret over it:

“Fear brings torment, and that is exactly what the devil wants. He wants to torment us. But you don’t have to let him succeed if you remember that God has given you a spirit of power, love, and a calm and well-balanced mind. Fear is a liar, and most of what it threatens never happens. Even if something we fear does happen, God is with us, and He will deliver us and help us [2 Cor 1:10].
I encourage you not to waste your days in fear.” [Joyce Meyer - MWG]

When fear knocks at your door, let God answer it.

For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7
