SJB and Holy Family grade school alums from the 70’s and 80’s might remember Sister Marita Jean (Patricia McCormick). Sister Jean passed away over the weekend. She was 91 years old. She was a real dynamo who taught 8th grade.

Not surprisingly, after her teaching days, she and a few other sisters started the Theresa Maxis Food Cupboards. They served the poor in West and South Philadelphia. Besides a food cupboard, they helped people pay bills, provided job training and resume workshops, all without formal financial support. The work they did was amazing and inspiring!

She suffered from dementia the last few years, but always greeted all with open arms and a hearty hello. The world is a better place because of "Patsy McCormick,” Sister Jean.
